Worst so-called bread I've ever eaten!

I'm on day six of trying to go gluten free. I think, maybe, it's helping with the IBS, but too soon to know for sure. I bought a loaf of Udi's gluten free white bread and it wasn't so awfully bad, but really not very good. Yesterday I thought I'd try Udi's multigrain bread, thinking that might taste better than the white. Although, I wondered how it could be multigrain without gluten, but decided to buy it anyway. Well, apparently the wheat is what makes it edible. That was the worst mess I've ever tried to eat. I tried it plain, I toasted it, I put it under the broiler. Nothing helped. I finally decided that I'd rather do without bread than to try to eat that disgusting expensive loaf of garbage.

Sorry that bread was so disappointing but guess you wouldn't know unless you try it.

True, I just hate to spend $5.00 on a loaf of bread that I can't even eat. I might take it back to Walmart.

@1creekgirl There are many brands proposing gluten free products now, I have not yet tried.

A couple of years ago, I and several of my friends were invited to another friends' home for lunch. Just for kicks and giggles I decided to try the gluten free bread instead of the regular. I was not at all impressed with the cardboard-like texture. I don't have to go gluten free but I do use it from time to time. Most of the other GF products I've used were very good. The bread - not at all. I'm sorry for your unpleasant and expensive experience.

That is disappointing. I bet you paid a premium for it too. I feel the same way about Lactaid. The horrible latic acid free milk they used to try to peddle. Thank goodness they have other alternatives now. I don't need it..but some people have trouble digesting milk.

I also try to be dairy free, because it does hurt my stomach. If I want milk, I drink Dream Rice Milk. I'll probably take that bread back to Walmart since it was $5.00.

This was gluten free which is what I'm trying to eliminate from my diet to help my stomach feel better. I'm going to search for other breads without gluten to see if they taste any better.

I agree, that is expensive for a loaf of bread you can't even eat! I also think you need to take it back, hopefully you can exchange it for the one that you can eat.

That is disappointing. I hope that you find a bread that you can tolerate. We eat very little bread here, we are more into flatbreads and soft tortilla wraps, which are better for us since we don't need all of the calories of bread. But you experiment and hopefully will find what is right for you.

I am also supposed to eat gluten free bread, that or rice cakes....I decided on rice cakes, now I am starting to feel like a giant rice cake. It is so frustrating when trying to eat healthier is almost tasteless.

My son-in-law is gluten intolerant, so I'm hoping to get some ideas from him.

Ack. That sounds horrible. I have found that when you try to make something as an alternative to something, it rarely works out. Just give me the real thing and I will deal with it.

I think I'd rather not eat bread at all than to eat some of those substitutes.
