Put it in a can

Actually I "canned" four pints and a tiny jar of apple butter in glass jars. Always puzzled me about them being canned when they are glass. I gave them a "hot water bath" and as soon as I pulled them out, the lid made its popping sound and sealed.
I made the little four ounce jar especially for my sister. So she can use it up quickly.
She worries about letting big jars spoil.
This is the apple butter that has no added sugar and it has simmered in the crock pot for a very long time. I leave the peels on, but they blend right in. I make it into "butter" by using my stick or immersion blender.
I think I would like to learn how to make "pumpkin butter" sometime.

When I was little I was confused about this a lot. Now I think grandma bottled catsup.

@GardenGerty It came to my mind that we also say "invasare" (put in jars) in case of big glass jars.

Not a whole lot. I sterilized the jars in the dishwasher, spooned the hot apple butter into them and put them in a huge pot of boiling water. I did not peel the apples, only cored them.

I like them both as they are not overly sweet.

Basically it is just cooked fruit, or pumpkin, pureed. Add spices that you like including cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, etc. Cook it until it is really thick. Some people add sugar, I think the pumpkin would need some. For pumpkin I might sweeten it with maple syrup.

@BabeSays Yes, either one of these is a spread to eat on bread. My first husband would mix apple butter with peanut butter. His family called it "Oklahoma red dirt sandwiches." We grew up in Oklahoma and it is noted for red clay soil.

I think you do it about the same way. But I would probably take the rind off as it is much thicker.

I seem to pulverize it into oblivion. Oh, you mean the pumpkin butter, yes, I am sure you would just use the pulp, not the rind.
