Things I Will Miss

For the last five years I get the exact same feelings when we leave our home in Connecticut for our home in Florida. I think it is worse this year.
I will miss my children, grandchildren, and the kitties. I doubt very much that one of the cats will be alive upon our return.
I will miss our friends. They are true blue, and we are blessed to have so many in our lives.
I will miss our country club. It’s so much grander than our club in Florida and the golf course, tennis courts, and restaurant are pristine.
I will miss our gym. I have gotten used to the equipment, instructors, and wonderful people I’ve met in the classes. My husband loves it so much, that he switched gyms.
I will miss our beautiful home, too. It will soon be relegated as our vacation home once we fully establish residency in Florida.
I will definitely miss Spring in Connecticut. It will be sad not seeing our pink landscaping in bloom.
I sure as heck won’t miss winter, though!
What would you miss if you were in my flip flops?

I've thought about the exact same thing, leaving Michigan for the winter. We never have, but will start once Jay retires. All the grandkids and our two children are permanently established here. I'd hate to move so far away, they couldn't pop their nose in the door, for a surprise visit! Do we have a beautiful home? It's an absolute mess right now! But, I hate the very thought of leaving this ole house, my feet are finally established in one, secure place. For the first time in my life, I'm genuinely happy! I love my home

@DianneN Maybe you could break up your stay in Florida. Plan to visit the kids one time, every month you're away. Those long periods of time away from the kids, would be very hard! Frequent visits will help with this.

@kobesbuddy Our older son is planning to visit with at least one grandkid, but that will have to wait until the ice skating seasoning hockey seasons end. The coaches don't want either of the kids to miss more than a day or two of practice.
It's easier for us to go home as you suggested. However, I do not like to return to the cold or risk the problems of flying during snowstorms. And every day we are home, means longer time must be had in Florida. We will see how it goes. We've managed 4 months, so two more months and a day shouldn't be too bad.

Wintering in Florida always sounds wonderful especially when we're dealing with ice and snow and you're telling us about swimming and wearing shorts etc. But I really would miss my family. I'm so used to them being around .

There will always be something to miss. You sure you won't miss that first snowflake?
Now in order for me to put myself in your flip-flops, I would need to think like you. That would mean, I would miss shopping in New York, trips to Boston, as well as all those other things you mentioned. In your flip-flops, I would hope to be away from CT before the first snowflake falls.
In only one way, I'm glad I'm not in your flip-flops. I LOVE snow. I would miss it if I were to go to Florida in winter. I wouldn't mind shopping in New York or trips to Boston.
On the flip side, there's Orville, who is patiently waiting for your arrival in Florida.

You are hilarious! I know how much you love snow. I am shipping a fur coat to Florida just in case we return for a visit during the height of winter. It's always good to be prepared. I should pack boots, too. Shudder, shudder.
Yes, Orville usually cheers me up. I always worry that he won't be there. Sigh......

Both places sound great. :-) I'm not sure what I would miss - it would depend on who all was coming with me or not

@DianneN Yes, I am happy too that we have the messenger by FB. We also always communicate to our daughter using our group chat room. Is FaceTime similar to messenger?
Oh, 6 months straight. Yes, probably it will be your sons and their families who will just visit you.

@SIMPLYD Yes, Facebook messenger is wonderful. FaceTime is available on all our Apple products. We can see each other as we speak. It’s awesome! I showed our younger son our condo in Florida and even Orville the Osprey. He shows me the kitties and Doodles gets all excited when he hears our voices, Our older son comes for weekends. Our younger son won’t leave the kitties.

I've never been to Connecticut but from the pictures you've posted I'd miss the spring when all the trees and plants begin their new lives.
I pray Kuma will still be going strong when you return, cancer is unpredictable and a lot rides on her desire to live.

When you've been used to be with people, things or places, you'd really miss them when it's time to leave but I know you'll be back just like what Gen. Douglas MacArthur promised the Filipinos in World War !! "I shall return" hehehe!

@sunrisefan Yes, but I'm smart enough to know it's impossible. Thankfully, it's only a 2 1/2 flight.

My husband only tolerated FL for me, but we've made a nice home in our condo and many new friends. He enjoys it much more now. My brother and his wife, and our sis-in-law have condos there, too. We both have friends and former colleagues living in Florida, and several friends from Connecticut and New York have homes or rent for the season. It is a great choice for me. I love the restaurants, beaches, pool, sports, warmth, and shopping, too.

I was just thinking . . . I've never lived anywhere else except this Valley . . . so I've never had the opportunity to miss this area. I've been on vacation, but not for long - not for months at a time anyway. If I left, I think I would then truly realize and miss all the things I took for granted here.

I'd choose Florida over Mississippi any day and I'm not sure if I'd miss much here

@DianneN - I would miss exactly the same things you listed. When we decided to move from Dallas, where we had lived 25 years and raised our children, back to California, where we had lived when we were young, it was a tough decision. We had dear friends in both places, but I had so many more connections in Dallas, at the time. I even knew I would miss my doctor, who had delivered both of our younger two daughters. I got a little teary eyed several times.
Almost 20 years later, we are very content here in Southern California, have more friends, new doctors, and many close relationships, including a daughter and two grandkids who live nearby. The change takes time. I hope you are very content with your decision in a few years.

@DianneN - No, you aren't a schizo. You are 100% normal. I think every normal person gets sad about moving away from the places they feel safe, cozy and connected!
