Finding a home

My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a house. We currently rent an apartment, but we think it would be so nice to get a place we can actually call our own. If we have our own home, we can change whatever we want in it, and it won't feel so temporary as our current situation. We've been browsing the real estate websites, but haven't really found anything yet. We've tried to visit three places, but unfortunately they were so popular, they were sold before we could see them. Did you easily find a house to buy? Maybe some of you are renting a place as well, or looking for your own place. Share your experiences here! And if you have any tips, definitely let me know.

We rented for many years and bought this house, where we now live, twenty years ago. This was the first house we visited, then we visited many other houses and finally decided that the first one was the one we liked more.

Wow, you found your house at the first try! But it's good that you visited some other places as well, it's always nice to compare.

@LadyDuck Oh it's too bad that you have to do the cleaning all by yourself! But good thing it wasn't too big for you then.

@maclanis I liked this house immediately, my husband has in mind something bigger, that I am glad he did not find, as the one who clean is me.

It took my mom 16 years to be able to buy a home. We still live in it. It was very difficult to buy it. But we had facilities to pay monthly installment.

Yes, we would be paying monthly installments as well. You have to be rich to be able to buy a house in one go!

@maclanis Yes that's true. Only rich people can afford buying as many houses as they'd like. For me my little house is enough. I never wished for a big house.

@BabeSays I don't want a house that is too big either.

That happened to our son. He sold his brand new house after he got married. Every single new house he looked at either was sold before he looked at it, was outbid, or someone snuck in and paid in cash. He finally got lucky when someone couldn't obtain a mortgage on a house he wanted. My advice is to keep looking and don't give up hope.

We won't. But we were quite disappointed. One house looked really amazing but we never got the chance to see it.

@maclanis I’m so sorry. Don’t give up. They say there is a house for every buyer.

Is housing hard to find in your country? Would it help to let a real estate agency know that you are looking for a home? Good luck with finding your dream home.

There are a lot of houses available, but we really want to find something that is a good fit, we don't want to buy a house just to have a house.

@maclanis No, you need to buy something you really like. It might be a long time before you have the opportunity again.

Not an easy process. Very time consuming to find one both affordable and which suits your tastes and needs.

Is it so easy to buy a house there in Belgium? Here it is not. Not for the average worker. I hope you will find the house of your dreams.

It's not that easy, but we've both saved up money, and with a loan we'll get there. Thank you!

Are there rent-to-own houses there?

I'm not sure if there are... But the actual buying of the house isn't really the problem, we just haven't found a house that we like.

If you have the financial back up that is the best thing to do, and you mentioned the plus factor owning own house. We are living in a house inherited by my wife, its sn old house but luckily there's no ghost.
