Hubby cooked

Growing up in the upper peninsula of Michigan, hubby was used to having a dish called Pasties. It is a hand pie brought to the US by miners from Cornwall, but it was quickly adopted by all kinds of people in the area. Hubby made some tonight. It is crust filled with beef and rutabagas, potatoes, onions and carrots. He used store bought crust, but the original recipe calls for a vinegar pie crust. I dished up frozen blue berries and topped them with homemade yogurt and a little maple syrup. Yummy food on a cold night.

@GardenGerty I am glad to know that since I am curious what type of food in the food in your neck of the woods like Po Boy sandwiches are popular in New Orleans area.

@Deepizzaguy Well, this was a Michigan meal. Kansas. . . where I live. . . Mennonite German food, like Bierocks, and Verinika, and other things with sausage and Kraut. A bierock is a German hand pie, usually has ground beef and cabbage and cheese. We eat lots of beef and pork, lots of casseroles. We get our share of Tex Mex foods as well.

I had read about pasties as a younger person. I have tried them in Michigan. Tradition says the miners would hold the edge of the crust with their dirty hands and just eat the middle part.

It is sort of a regional thing. I believe most areas have some kind of sandwich or hand pie that is typical. You probably have foods in your area that are new to me.

Oh my gosh - I think I remember his pasties post at one time. I believe I asked him if that was different from "pastry". That all sounds really good - tasty and hearty for autumn!

That would be about right. Yes, it was good. The extra veggies he had chopped and some more beef cubes became a stew for tonight, with garlic and vegetable juice added. And worstchestershire sauce.

Pasties are good - not a lot different to pies although when I was young pasties didn't have meat in them, just vegetables.
