Why isn't there a local cafe where we can get a decent breakfast?

I know, I know. If we lived in New York City or at least a town with more than 600 residents, we'd have lots of choices for breakfast.
When we go to "town", we leave the country and drive ten miles to a huge town of at least 2,000 residents. Seeing as we only have two stop lights in our little town, this means going to the big city where there are two regular restaurants which serve breakfast.
Both have good lunches and suppers, but are woefully lacking in the breakfast serving effort. We went out to one of them this morning, hoping that maybe life in the kitchen of the restaurant had changed somehow since the last time we were there.
Of course, it hadn't. We ordered sausage, eggs, hash browned potatoes, grits (for me), biscuits, toast, and coffee. While we waited for our order to arrive, the server made her rounds of chatting with the customers instead of bringing our food and taking orders from the other folks.
The food was actually good as usual and was cold as usual. I've sent my plate back to be reheated in the past, but all that did was keep me waiting and when I finally got it back, my husband was already through eating.
I recon we can go to BoJangles and at least get a good ham biscuit. We could go to McDonald's, but I'm not that desperate.
At least in my kitchen, the food's hot and usually good and I can fix my coffee exactly the way I want it.
Do you all eat breakfast out much? I'm really tired of bacon or sausage and eggs. Any suggestions for something different?
PS The photo is Rue 57 where we had a Mother's Day brunch in New York City this past spring. Now, they really knew how to do breakfast right!

I like to fix breakfast for supper sometimes, too. Pancakes are yummy, but so many calories!

@1creekgirl Yes because you gotta have butter and syrup.

That sounds good, except for the rye toast! Never learned to like it. But I love being waited on when the coffee and breakfast are hot.

@NJChicaa That's a nice childhood memory for you. I remember my Grannie would sometimes let me put a piece of cheese in my "pretend" coffee that was mostly milk. Made the coffee greasy, but it was so good when the cheese melted.

@1creekgirl Rye toast is my favorite! My grandparents used to give us rye toast and half-milk, half-coffee when my sister and I would sleep over their house.

I feel your pain...no good breakfast places here either. There used to be a coffeehouse that made good waffles but they bit the dust several years ago..As a matter of fact, I recently went to a local place for a brunch, and it was woefully inadequate. Actual breakfast options here are not very good here and you are better off making it yourself, or driving 45 minutes in any direction to a good place.

Sounds like here. We'd have to drive 45 min to an hour to find a decent breakfast, but that's just too far.

We only go out for breakfast a few times a year. We live in a small village and there are only two places where to have breakfast. Here we do not usually have eggs bacon and sausages, Swiss like to have yogurt with muesli, tiny sliced ham and cheese and several kind of breads. As an Italian, I prefer a cappuccino with a croissant, or at most toasted bread with jam.

I used to go out for morning breakfast most Sundays. I found it overrated after awhile. Food prices for eggs and such are overpriced. Service is not always good, so I decided it's just better to eat at home. No crowds or waiting for a table, food prepared to my taste, and coffee is always hot!

I feel the same way! I can make my coffee with my Hazelnut creamer, just a little sugar, not too strong, but hot, just the way I love it. I like cooking breakfast, but it used to be a treat to go out, but there's just no place that we enjoy.

We rarely eat breakfast out unless we are on vacation. I do love a good brunch though - then you (and the family) can pick out whatever they want. I know - having the same ol', same ol' gets boring after a while. How about pancakes, waffles or something like pumpkin muffins (I know, all high carbs)?

We usually eat at the house, my husband makes great food!
My favorite breakfast item has to be French toast. I put cinnamon and sugar on it, so good!!

French toast sounds delish! I'll have to cook that soon. I love it, but my husband had to fix it every morning when he had kitchen duty in the Navy and got burned out on it. Glad your husband likes to cook!

@1creekgirl at last in Belfast you can get decent coffee from about 5am. What I’m after are all-night cafes. Sitting reading and writing in a café at 3 in the morning is just right for me.

Wow, we really are worlds apart, aren't we? I don't think even our fast food places are open all night and certainly not the restaurants. All both of them.
