I used to make clam chowder entirely from scratch. But the older I get and the more money I have in my bank account the less inclined I am to do it from scratch. But my cheater clam chowder still works out to be just fine.
I start out by cutting up three sticks of celery. Then I chop up some onions and red potatoes. I open a can of mushrooms. I put a little bit of oil in the pan and cook up the onions, celery, mushrooms, and potato. First with a little bit of oil, then I add a little bit of chicken broth and cook for about 10 or more minutes.
Next I open up two cans of clams and add that in, keeping the juice.
Stir that up and cook for about another 5 or so minutes. Then I add a couple of cans of Progresso New England clam chowder. This time it was Progresso because it was on sale.
I stir it all up and then add one pint of heavy whipping cream, about two tablespoons of oregano and 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning. I have already peppered the pre-mixture.
Simmer this for about an hour and this is some delicious cheater clam chowder.

Making it from scratch is actually really, really easy. It's just generally onions, diced potatoes, clam juice, clams, a little broth, and heavy whipping cream. I usually add mushrooms and celery, and season it with oregano and Italian seasoning, and maybe a little dill weed.

@LisaLevesque It is. I mean, it takes a bit to prepare it and cook all of the parts, but it turns out really good with virtually little work.

That is a huge quantity. It sounds good. We buy the clam chowder at Aldi, because even your cheater version is more than I want to deal with.

@LisaLevesque Definitely can freeze it. And with there only being two of us in the house sometimes we have to.

That might be part of the problem. Not sure how it might taste in any Filipino restaurant, but you can find some very tasty clam chowders in many restaurants here in the U.S. If you make it from scratch, and use a good enough recipe, it probably would be better than anything you may find in a can as well.

I got introduced to clam chowder when I was holidaying in the US. A friend with whom I spent a week bought a tin and I fell in love with it.
Whenever anyone came down from the US I got them to get me a tin. But now I no longer look forward to it. I over did it (lol)
