Today, December 20th is National Re-Gifting Day! This day was chosen in honor of office parties and the specific way they do their Christmas gift exchange. This particular December Thursday appears to be the most common day for companies to hold their annual employee/company Christmas party. This day is gaining popularity some believe as a way to more effectively re-cycle gifts. If your a re-gifter it is recommended to follow certain rules of etiquette. Here are a couple suggestions: - Re-gift only when certain the recipient will enjoy your (unwanted) gift. If you considered the gift junk or an item to gather dust in your home probably not something you want to give another person. -Don’t re-gift if the item is handmade or personalized. -Be prepared to answer questions like "where did you find this? I've been looking everywhere for something like this!" Good luck with being convincing , lol. So, have you ever re-gifted? Any particular reason why you did? For those who do re-gift, do you have any advice to add to the above suggestions? Source- nationaldaycalendar.com Photo- time.com/google images

I heard that this morning on the radio on my way to the pool, with those suggestions. Good suggestions too on the etiquette of re-gifting. I did it only once. I worked in a fast food court in a mall many years ago and a customer gave me a gift for Christmas. It was an earring daisy. I don't have pierced ears, so I gave it to my daughter. She didn't want it and gifted it to her new aunt for their wedding, she didn't want it and gifted it to my sister, my sister didn't want it and gifted it to me. I haven't re-gifted since. I gave it to a thrift store.

Sounds like no one wanted the gift Good idea to give it to Goodwill. I have never re-gifted, but have put those unwanted items on Craig's list for sale. If they don't sell, I will also give them to Goodwill. Well, at least someone will enjoy those earrings.

I will re-gift but I follow the rules you've given and am very careful how and to whom I re-gift.

@dgobucks226 Haha - certainly not good to give back to the original donor.

Here's another good rule to follow: Be careful not to re-gift something to the original giver.

Yes! Do NOT regift among the same family or circle of friends. Once A twice regifted birdhouse was given back to ME about three Christmases after I'd given it to my stepmother. I actually bought the thing and thought she'd like it. My feelings were hurt.

Oh no.... You are not following re-gifting etiquette, lol. The gift should be brand new and in its original packaging. No, hand me downs!

There's been occasions when I've regifted something but only when I knew the recipient would enjoy the gift.

A very good rule to follow If no one's feelings are hurt that seems fine. If the gift had special meaning to the original giver, probably not a good idea to re-gift.

I have given gifts to someone who would appreciate them. Not as a gift for an occasion, more I received this, I can't use it, would you like it?

Interesting fact! True, on several occasions I have re-gifted. I appreciated the thought behind the gift, but either the thing wasn't of interest to me, not my style, not something I would use - and I knew someone who would like it

Here's another rule you should remember when re-gifting. One should re-wrap all gifts and remove any tags that may suggest you didn’t do the shopping for the re-gifted item. Pretty common sense but sometimes in our haste to rewrap, those tags just might be forgotten, lol.
