mother always prepares chicken macaroni salad every christmas to serve and to give away.
here's her list of ingredients that i'm heading out to buy.
elbow macaroni, cheese, mayonnaise, pickle relish, pineapple tidbits, carrots and chicken breast.
in recent years, she has been adding an apple and deleting the raisins.
well, i'm still going to buy raisins and put them in my bowl every time i eat some.
do you make chicken macaroni salad differently?
are there ingredients you like that other people don't?
update!
the final ingredients were: salad macaroni, cheese, mayonnaise, pickle relish, pineapple tidbits, carrots, potatoes, chicken breast, raisins and celery.

yeah, people seem to either like or dislike raisins.
i had an officemate who thinks she's allergic to grapes and/or raisins because it makes her lips tingle and itch.

@cintol i don't think i've seen spaghetti noodles in soup here. some use elbow macaroni, or short tubes like this

@hereandthere I have only ever used spaghetti noodles to make soup with. I would give yours a try as well.

I have never had chicken macaroni salad, but it sounds pretty good. I was just thinking of making some macaroni salad. It would be all for me, though. Bob does not eat pasta.

My chicken macaroni salad is with Omor or the canned pimiento. I also put some all purpoae cream in addition to mayyonaise. I also put rasins but no carrots.
I think it's according to our preference.
But for my taste, i like having lots of pi eapple to add sweetness to the salad.

@hereandthere the popular one is OMOR . RAM has this also.
It gives a nice taste to pizza most specially. And of course the chicken macar0ni salad.

wow, canned pimiento! i didn't know there's such a thing. i've only had cheese pimiento sandwiches.
if you search for arbie's/brokenbee's response here, i bet you'll be intrigued at how her mother makes her macaroni.
mother likes to include the pineapple syrup to give it a sweet and sour taste.

@responsiveme oh, we use canned pineapples. i seem to remember there are dishes where fresh pineapple might not work because of the bromelain in it

@hereandthere I'm just curious how this tastes - especially withe the pineapples. I think I have all the ingredients here - I'll have to try it! Minus the raisins - my husband's mom used to put raisins in EVERYTHING and that is the running joke even now.

We make it exactly the same way as you except that we do not put raisins or apples, we save that for the fruit salad.

@hereandthere we do not do that because for us that is buko salad, another kind of dish lol, I like that sometimes so long as the " buko is not yet mature and tough, it's also a cheaper alternative especially if we are serving a lot and do not have enough fruit cocktail or fresh fruits readily available

@louievill yeah, like an extender, right? we have a fresh buko seller here and at this time of the year the sidewalk is full of buko.
i've also noticed that some put grated cheese on fruit salad to balance the sweetness. i guess people's tastes are changing.

@hereandthere yes! As I'm a vegetarian!!
Yea, simple ingredients only like oil, onions, tomatoes, turmeric powder, chilly powder, sauce, some water, salt , vegetables of our choice, then when all these get sauted we have to add the boiled macaroni and mix it then add some coriander leaves...
This is how we do

Its an American recipe that became popular around the world except from Italy and Switzerland where Pastas are done the traditional way.
It has Mayo, pickle relish, apples, pineapples, parsley ham and chicken.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I know very well what is pasta salad, it's popular in the United States, also in France they do not like it at all and also in Spain it's not at all popular, so you see more than Italy and Switzerland.

My mother also makes chicken macaroni salad but hers has fruit cocktail, kaong and nata de coco. It's like a fusion of two salads, chicken macaroni and macaroni fruit salad.
I remove the raisins when I eat salad. I used to like raisins when I was a kid. My mother always bought me boxes(those little ones) of raisins and I ate them. Maybe I grew tired of the taste.
