Holiday decorations and a funny review

How long do you keep your holiday decorations up? I tend to put mine up after Thanksgiving and leave them up until the middle of January. I figure - if you are going to the work of putting decorations up, one may as well enjoy them for as long as possible. And there is the issue of - the lights do seem to be so bright and cheery. Once they come down - things seem more grey, dull and boring especially in this winter landscape of white , grey , snow tones....
*sigh*
Maybe I should just keep my tree up year round and switch out the theme of the décor. lol.
But as much as I like it, it is looking fairly cluttered in here, so I'm sure that sometime in the coming week I will take the things down or at least start on it. I do find that the joy it gives me from looking at it - is mixed with the thought that I will have to be taking it down .
Here's an unusual review: this holiday season a friend gave me 2 boxes of prank candy canes one in dill pickle flavor and one in mac n cheese flavor. (Because I love pickles and mac and cheese, not together, though) As tempting as it was to leave them alone - I had to see if it was just witty packaging on yellow and green color canes, or if they actually mimicked the flavors they were supposed to be.
So the first one I tried was the dill pickle one. I was surprised that it actually wasn't bad. It was sweet - but very "dill" flavored. So, if you like sweet pickles - not bad. lol. That said sweet pickles not my first pick, but I did find this to be a very effective candy, surprisingly.
I was excited about the mac and cheese ones. This was less effective as a candy. Sure they were cheese flavor alright, but they were very strong on a sweet candy cane base. It reminded me of dirty socks.
Hilarious product though.....

That's funny. I would have had to at least try them, also. If I ever see them in the store, I'll pass on the dirty sox ones.

My wife took down the tree, the lights and lantern at the front of the house just yesterday but we are keeping the ones in the garden as we always do. Never tried prank candies.

Ah good work! I'm taking my decorations down today, or at least, most of them.
What kind of ones do you have in your garden?

@FayeHazel the one in the garden are led string lights so we decided that it's not seasonal and beautiful whole year round.

@louievill Oh nice. I love seeing lights out doors year round. I'm in an apartment, though if I were in a house I think I would do that

I took my decor down around the second or third of the month. I didn't have much. I hardly turned on any of the lights. I was thinking of geting more cheery lights for in here and turning them on. Something with batteries that I can recharge I think.
Also, those are both very interesting. I would be more likely to try the pickle flavored one. It's a bummer that hte mac and cheese one was a bust.

@FayeHazel Yes there are really thin wire lights as well that can be manipulated. I have a set of them but I haven't used them in awhile. I have a set of string lights that say up in my bedroom year round. I don't always turn them on though.

Ah, sometimes I think that is wisest move. Not much holiday stuff. Putting it out and packing it up (like I'm doing, today) is a bother.
There are many kind of lights you can get now that are battery operated for in door use - …. makes things a bit more cheery :-)
Pickle actually wasn't bad - I'm not tempted to eat more of it - but not as bad as someone would think

Ah yes, I love the both flavors too, but agree, they are best in non-candy form.
Ah good for you! Hold out - as for me? I'm taking mine down for the most part today. I was thinking to leave them, but I have both mine, and my parents to do.... so better do mine first

We have stockings on the livingroom and stair walls that we leave up 24/7. But our tree goes up (usually) thanksgiving after dinner, and comes down sometime early to mid January. However. This year the teee went up the night after thanksgiving, and we may keep the tree up all month. As we have nothing in that corner of the livingroom anymore, especially for light.
Those definitely dont sound like good ideas to me lol, but people sure do come up with some funny / strange things!

I think it's awesome you keep your stockings up year round. I totally don't blame you for keeping the tree up, either. Christmas tree lighting is, I don't know... just so nice. :-D

Ah, well, after I took pics of the boxes, I admit that I did throw them out. I didn't want to eat them, and didn't see the point of packing them up

Surprise! A long while ago there were "Bertie Botts" too, they were a jelly bean based off of the Harry Potter series - some were nice and some were bad flavors
