Late last year, when my anxiety and depression started getting to me, I turned on youtube. I went to the search function and I began searching for calming music. I've continued to listen to calming music ever since. I've told several people here that I listen to music via youtube. Nothing that has any voices, only instrumental type. Some have beautiful scenes, others merely have the channel's logo on display.
This is one of my favorites. I hope you will enjoy it as well. It shows a snowy scene. I am sure some of you will enjoy that while others will be glad it's merely on a screen.
The new sleep music playlist with a beautiful Llaima volcano at night and peaceful snow falling. This relaxing music video will put anyone to sleep within mi...

Very nice but I won't watch the video because I don't like snow lol My grand daughter plays in the orchestra so I habe grown to love classical and soothing music.

Well you get a lot of it so I can imagine you'd get tired of it for sure. Oh wow! You have quite the talented granddaughter then. I bet she loves it.

@Happy2BeMe That would be an excellent medium for expression. I imagine it's very soothing for her as well.

@ScribbledAdNauseum she has so much passion for it. She plays the flute and the piccolo.

I listen to a lot of that as well, but I like music mixed in with the sounds of wind and rain etc. Like, right now, I am listening to a track that has music but it also has wind sounds. Not real wind sounds, but it works.

My internet can be sporadic sometimes too. Sometimes we have to reset the router as I might receive fast internet but my uncle can't get it in his room or vice versa.

It's been getting slow lately and Internet provider keeps calling us whether we like to update our Internet. It's like same Internet connection (slow) with an expensive monthly subscription. Nah, I told them I don't like an update. It will be the same.

@JustBhem Oh that's not good. It sounds as if they are just trying to get more money out of you and hope you dont' realize it!

I don't usually listen to that kind of music.

I don't know why, but I've almost always liked it. Maybe it stems from Face from Nick Jr. (remember that?) and the classical music that used to be played in the background.

@thislittlepennyearns Yep. Around ten years ago now, Nick at Nite used to play Gullah Gullah Island at 2-4 AM. I used to stay up late to watch it. Gullah Gullah Island was one of my favorites, but then so was CatDog and Doug.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Haha, yes I remember Face. Back when that channel had real shows on and not a bunch of garbage.

THank You. For the most part I let it just play in the background and forget about it. I'll be talking to people here on mylot and then suddenly the music comes back into my conscience, if that makes sense. I mean, I know it's there the whole time but I won't really be hearing it.

@hillhjill I am trying to find the best way to word this. I've felt a bit tongue tied today, so I hope what I am about to say makes sense. When I was a little girl, I could sleep with the television on, and in fact it helped me sleep. However, I think probably from the age of ten and up, I could no longer sleep with a noise that wasn't just instrumental. If I hear a voice on the television? My mind will stay involved and I won't be able to get a restful sleep.

@ScribbledAdNauseum you're welcome and that makes perfect sense, that's the TV for me in the background.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't always pay attention to the images either, but when I do, it is really pretty to look at.

@dodo19 Yes, like right now I just looked up, and it was a mountain stream flowing gently down a hill at dusk. Just breathtaking.

Yes, and some of the images they show are just gorgeous. I don't always pay attention to the images but it's nice to look up every once in awhile and see them.

Flute music, like something from The Lord of The Rings, does it for me.

I like calming music too. But I can't listen to any water sounds at night because it would make me have to go to the bathroom.

I go to pee twice before I fall asleep. Once right before I lay down and again around an hour later. Of course I also wake up during the night to use the bathroom, but I've had to do this for the last couple of years anyway.

Oh yes the ocean is a pretty thing to listen to. Right now I am listening to the sounds of a train. It's probably the sound that relaxes me the most.

After reading through this thread, ive noticed that you and i have a lot in common. Music taste, depression and anxiety, tv shows. Im sitting here wondering what your story is. Ive suffered severe trauma in my life, and sadly, i will never be the same. Music has always been an outlet for me. Its always nice to know there is someone out there that can relate, you know?

I understand completely. I guess you could say I was raised in a way that allowed anxiety and depression to fester. It doesn't help that mental disorders run in my family. My childhood wasn't tragic but it did have it's rough spots and I had to grow up too soon in some ways. Music just helps calm me, I'm listening to some now. Reading is my other outlet and escape.

It will probably be terrific. I will check it out. I have some CD's of strictly nature sounds. My only problem is with the birds and rainforest sounds. It sounds like wake up and morning to my brain. My daughter has sent me some links to listen to as well.

I used to get the cd's but I found I didn't like all of the tracks. Youtube is much better. Sometimes a certain instrument or certain nature sound will bother me. Like the incessant call of a bird, one can only enjoy that for so long.

Thanks a lot now.
