Update: one better, one not

I received a Cortisone injection in my shoulder on Monday and it's feeling much better. I had so much hoped that my husband could get one for the pain in his legs, but he has to wait until he's finished with another med for an eye infection. He's been working so hard on rebuilding the garage and that's part of the cause of his pain. I'm the resident gofer (in case you're not familiar with that term, it means I "go for" whatever's needed right then!) A cousin is coming today again to help which is good. I'm cooking a pork roast with mashed potatoes and gravy for lunch while he's here. I made a heating pad which is nice for my shoulder. I stitched together a square of fabric into several triangles which are filled with raw long grained rice. I heat it up in the microwave and it stays warm for a while. It's much more comfortable that an regular electric heating pad. Hope you guys are well and warm today. Compared to some of you, we're having a veritable heat wave! Low 60's F today compared to the 30's earlier this week. I better get started on that pork roast!

Hopefully by the time that your husband finishes with working on your garage he will be off of his other medication and able to get a shot to help his pain.

We're hoping he can manage with some pain meds until he can get an injection.

Your poor husband worked so hard, I hope his legs will get better soon. I also heat rice or wheat to make heating pads. They stay warm for a long time.

They do make nice heating pads, don't they?

@1creekgirl Absolutely! They are clean, not polluting and you can make as many as you like.

@LadyDuck i like being able to make them in whatever shape I want. The electric pads are stiff and can burn you.

I'm intrigued by your microwaveable heating pad. I need one of those and didn't realize it was that easy to make. We're having a heatwave today too (it's 28 degrees) compared to the frigid temperatures the last few days

Glad it's warmed up a little there. Today was windy, but really warm. The rice pads are very easy to make. The first one I made was using an old sock, but it didn't wrap around well unless you needed it for your neck. This one is just a square of material with little pockets to hold the rice so they won't all go to one end.

@1creekgirl I'm going to give that a try and see if I can be successful at making a heating pad.

Believe it or not, I used to make the heating pads and eye masks and sell them. Hope the hubby's pain goes away along with yours. Enjoy that pork roast.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that rice can be used in a heating pad.

Yes, but be careful not to get it too hot. It holds the heat well for a while.

I have a couple of these heat bags and they are good for placing on sore spots.
