IT'S THE PENNIES SILLY!

Someone else already shared this video here on MyLot. But I could not resist sharing it as well. Because it is an illustration of exactly something I have been talking about for YEARS. To those who are struggling, living paycheck to paycheck, please hear me out. It has never been about the dollars. It has always been about the pennies. The little here and the little there that just adds up to hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I keep stashes of money around the house. Dollars, fives, tens, 20's, coins....you name it. I get a paycheck from my JOB of course. But I also save, save, and save. I save on groceries, toiletries, I dollar cost average my gas for crying out loud. I buy in bulk. I shop at multiple stores. I know my prices. I NEVER buy anything at full price, and I NEVER buy anything just because "I am there." When things ARE on sale I stock up. You should see my freezer. You should see my cupboard. You should see the overflow cupboards I keep in the basement. The picture in my post is real. It's my money. Cash reserves, coins in jars. It just sits there and does whatever I want it to do, and whatever I need it to do. I play all sorts of games with it. I reverse money back in to savings. I put ALL of this money into savings. I earn dividends on that savings and it just keeps adding up to more. Every dime I earn doing surveys, every dime I earn doing MyLot, or having done Bubblews or WebAnswers, or HubPages, or any checks I have received from Commission Junction or Google... All of this money goes into savings. If I am going to spend any of it, I am more inclined to spend the DIVIDENDS. Not the principle. My aim here is not to brag. I am not rich, although some people might think I am. I am simply trying to show you that pennies add up. It is NEVER about how much you make. It is NEVER about how much you have. It is ALWAYS about what you do with it. Always.

@hillhjill Always happy to help where I can. The bad thing about advice though is that many people will nod their heads and say, "that's a great idea," but never actually employ the tactics. It is what it is, and continues to be part of what separates the haves from the have nots in this world.

The video you linked is so much fun. Do you have such a machine in your place. What is it by the way. In our country hoarding pennies is prohibited.

These kinds of machines are ubiquitous in the United States. As for a low prohibiting hoarding pennies??? Why on earth would that be a law?

We try to do the same!! We have jars of change all over the place and little bits for this and that...We even started something new this past couple of weeks where anything we have left after 2 weeks goes back into a jar...Last week between the 2 of us, we had like $26....Over the year, that would add up to $676 that we might not even miss!

I watched to the first cashout of over $700. They have a lot of coins. I have three jars of coins, mostly pennies, some quarters. I would need to go through it to make certain I don't have any wheat pennies, which I believe I do.

@porwest Yes, they avoided the fees. It was a lot of work.

I probably have some of those too. I like to take my coins to the bank since it will spit out any odd balls and won't charge me any fees. I think they managed to avoid fees in the video too, but it seems like more work than just taking the coins to the bank.

@Susan2015 One of my favorite ways of saving money. It's a forced savings which means you can't miss. Mostly. It's nice that my coin jar talks as well, so I always know what's in the jar.

I'll vouch for you. You gave me some financial advice years ago on WA. I couldn't follow it then but have recently. I'm a penny pincher too and indeed does pay off. I used coinstar once just to check it out. Unfortunately a silver dime slid into the pan (don't know how I missed it) but the machine kept it. What a loss and I'll not be taking route again.

Ouch. Yeah, that stinks they kept that coin. But glad to hear you were able to employ some of the financial advice. Always happy to help where I can and glad to hear as well that you are at least a penny richer.

Wow, amazing..I hope they did that at a bank instead of a grocery store where a deduction might have been involved. I have only gotten small amounts from coin star..makes me feel like I should go for the gold!

My husband and I recently sold some rental property we owned. As soon as we received the money from the settlement, we put it in savings. And then, I told my daughter, I turned around and made $25 on Swagbucks. Regardless of how much money I have I'm always looking for ways to earn and save.

I need this. It reminds me to continue saving. The lure of shopping mindlessly is there. That is my hope as well, that the pennies I earn from online jobs add up.

This post is very inspiring, and eye opening. It's sometimes hard to post and keep earning the pennies....but yes they do add up, especially if you save them up and all of that!
