Do you ever have typo-ridden comments that you can't edit? Duh! I just came up with a solution.

Now and again, I encounter an old comment of mine with a typo that could change its meaning or render it incomprehensible. Sometimes said comments have no responses on them. OCD person that I am, I hit edit to correct the error. But once in awhile the comment can't be edited! Until it happened to me just now, I used to tear my hair, gnash my teeth, and flail around a bit on the floor. But then it hit me. All I had to do was copy the tainted comment, delete it, and then paste it as a new comment, editing out any typos I find. Why do such epiphanies sometimes take so long to occur? Have you ever encountered a comment of yours that couldn't be edited?

I've run into this mostly on Facebook, where I've accidentally posted the wrong GIF and couldn't figure out how to edit or delete it. Sometimes I can fix it, sometimes I can't. When I can't, I post a retraction and apology below it (especially if it was wildly inappropriate for the context).

Also, the photo above reminds me of an antique photo of the child you used to jokingly refer to as "Mrs. Horse".

When Facebook drives me nuts, I just delete the post that can't be edited, utter an oath, and move on.

I've had to do this when I discover an error in a tweet I just posted on Twitter as there is no edit function on Twitter.

@TheHorse No, I lose it. Normally, I only delete and retweet if I catch it right away. Otherwise I let it ride warts and all.

@DWDavis Yep, if I found a typo in a comment (of mine) here that had lots of comments/responses, I'd probably do the same.

If people have tweeted back, does their response tweet remain?

I don't understand why you can't edit. It hasn't happened to me.

It only happens once in a blue moon. Maybe I accidentally blocked myself.

@TheHorse That would be a worry. Then you would have to ask someone to send a message to you asking if you meant to do it or not. And carrying on from there - what if you messaged back and said yes, you meant to block yourself? What then?

Yes I have encountered a few comments of mine misspelled before. When it happens I just try to edit so it makes sense, if I am not able to retype I just wish the person can guess what I meant lol.

Usually we can figure things out by context. But I am a "perfectionist" and don't like typos in my posts or comments.

@TheHorse I totally get it. I am perfectionist too, when it comes to working, cleaning, organizing etc. I wonder what zodiac sign are you? Don't know if you're into that stuff, but I am Virgo, and Virgo is the most perfectionist sign of them all.

For the moment I have always been able to edit the comments left to correct the typos.

It (not being able to edit a comment) only happens now and then. But it has happened (to me) about a dozen times.

@TheHorse I wonder why you cannot edit some comments. We usually can delete or edit all the comments we left. May be those are comments left under other people comments. I never checked.

I'm glad you found the solution. I haven't, but then I'm the perfect speller - NOT. I've seen my typos on old comments but they must not have been too old to edit because I was able to take care of it.

It seems random to me. It's not always comments on super-old posts that I can't edit. Thankfully, it doesn't happen that often.

@TheHorse I'm glad it doesn't happen often for you. For me, it's at least once a comment when I see the red line or my fingers try typing something other than what it's supposed to and I correct it on the spot.

Not so far. I have always been able to edit. On another forum comments can't be edited so I delete and retype. Can't copy on that site either.

@paigea Of course, I was referring to Bubblews. Weight Watchers probably has different reasons.

I use to write for a horrible site that had all sorts of restrictions. You couldn't cut and paste, etc. because cheaters cut and pasted all sorts of stuff, including comments.

What if I had loved the song, found a connection between it and our discussion, and blabbed on as if nothing had happened. Would that have thrown you into "existential crisis"? As Jimi sings, "There ain't no life nowhere!" Or something like that.
