A Family Tradition I Don't Think That I Ever Told You About

When my kids were teens we had this ritual. At different times during the week, I would make a pot of herbal tea and then invite one of them to have tea with me for an hour... just the two of us. If they were struggling with something in their life that week, I would usually hear about it. I didn't have to ask... actually I wouldn't ask. It would just be normal chit chat without anyone around but the two of us... and the problems would have a way of being shared. A lot of the time, it would be about school, or money issues... but we usually got it sorted out by the time we finished the pot. I love family traditions... and that one worked for me and I hope that my son will do the same with his daughter.

That is a lovely tradition. I used to try to do a mother son outing with my son, but for some reason we didn't seem to go that often. It certainly wasn't a weekly thing.

That's a really nice tradition. I would like to have one for when my son becomes an adult.

That is a really good idea. I think sharing anything one on one is good. My friend and his son would go for a ride on their horses and the friend said the boy always opened up on these rides and they were able to talk things through.

I don't even think that should be considered a tradition, that is just what parents should do! I was lucky to be an only child with such an open minded mother that I could tell her literally anything and she would help me. I feel like parents don't really put themselves in that position much of just sitting down with their kids and they really should because that is the point of being a family is listening to each other and having a cry and having a good laugh!
