Two Dogs Attack

Two dogs ran out of a house and attacked me when I was walking this morning.
The first dog ran out growling and snapping. I put the bag of mail I was carrying between it and myself. A second dog latched onto my jeans leg and would not let go. Good thing that they are small dogs but they meant business. I was scared and just wanted to escape.
Later, the owner came over to apologize. That made me feel better.
Have you ever been attacked by dogs? What happened? What do you think about dogs that attack?

I'm so sorry you were attacked. Yes, it's very scary. I was attacked by a tiny pug, a chihuahua, and a mutt before but I was on their turf and they didn't get out to get me. The owners were so horrified and offered medical but I declined. Those little dogs can really hurt. Inside dogs that are territorial should be put up if someone comes to visit. If outside dogs are territorial, the owners need to make sure they cannot get out to hurt anyone. If they do, then sad as it sounds, they need to be removed. I've read horror stories of children and people being killed or severely mauled.

@akalinus That's so awful they attacked you. One got my finger. Little booger jumped high and later I was trying to figure why my finger and not ankle. The mutt bit at my leg and broke some skin but my pants prevented further damage. The pug caused some horrible bruising, broken skin and didn't heal for months. I had a tetanus not long before so I was good. Now I ask people if they have dogs before I come over with invited. We have dogs but I still have a fear of them.

There is a leash law in our park. Dogs that bite are kicked out. If I was not wearing jeans, it would have bitten me. Maybe both dogs would have. She was trying to get them back. One has a shock collar to help it lean better behavior. She said she will have a collar on the other one as well. She acted like she was sorry.
I feel sorry for her. She is raising her daughter's four children because the daughter is a train wreck.

I am glad you are okay.
This happens to me more often than it should since many dog owners in this apartment complex can't seem to follow the rules and keep their dogs leashed when they take them out. The last incident a woman's dog came charging down the stairs and crossed the street to attack my dog as I was walking her late one night. Luckily she didn't get hurt. In the end I was more shaken up by it than my dog was.

@akalinus This time the excuse was that the dog ran out the door before she could put a leash on him. In all honesty, I have never seen her take that dog out with a leash in the first place.

I was bailed up by a dog one day while I was out walking. It wouldn't let me go further. I kept saying "no" while stamping my foot and showing a flat palm. Eventually I managed to go on my way . There's something very scary about a snarling , barking dog that's trying to have a go at you.

That is my worst nightmare..Although I like dogs, I have been scared of them my whole life. ..even though I have enjoyed the ones I have had in my life. I got scratched by grandfather's dog's nails when I was little..and I think that kind of started it. I am glad you weren't hurt.

@akalinus No, he didn't do it on purpose at all. He just had long nails.

@snowy22315 Still, people need to train their dogs not to jump on people.

That's awful... I went for a walk (about 15 minutes from our house) and a dog spotted me and started running in my direction... I was nervous for a few minutes but he turned out just to want a belly rub!

@Missmwngi No, it's not. Lately, people are not training their dogs and some are just running loose.

I was mauled by a German shepherd as a child and still bear the scars. That plus other issues. To say I loathe dogs is an understatement.

That sounds scary. I am glad you are okay.
I haven't been attacked by a dog, but it happened to my husband some years ago. We were selling lottery tickets from the kidney association and we walked around from door to door. In one of the houses the owner opened the door and his dog ran out out and attacked my husband. The owner apolgized and offered to pay for my husband's clothes. We went to the ER because the wounds looked pretty bad. Fortunately the wounds healed after some time.

@akalinus Fortunately we don't have to pay directly for medical help (it is paid through taxes) so we didn't have to pay for it. The doctor wasn't worried about the wounds, but I am still glad that we asked, because it looked pretty bad.

@Porcospino There is always the danger of rabies or tetanus from bites. Some people don't go to doctors unless they are hurt badly. The expense is too great especially if they need rabies prevention treatment.

I hope they had their rabies shots. That's terrible. I'm glad the owner apologized.
I've been attacked. The dog who attacked was put in quarantine. I felt sorry for the owner and dog. She was only protecting her new puppies. She answered the door before the owner and latched her teeth on my knee.

@JESSY3236 Dogs can sense fear in people and will attack because of that. Just learn to love the safe dogs in your life and avoid the rest if you can.

That had to be really scary. Even to be charged by an angry dog, no matter how small, is frightening.
I love dogs, but I have been frightened by aggressive dogs at times, but never injured. My brother was mauled by a Pit Bull several years ago. The dog had to be shot to get it off of him.

One place I lived, a little chihuahua dog came out of nowhere as I was walking home and wanted to bite my feet! I turned and faced the little runt yelled no! He stopped, looked at me dazed and I walked backwards, the little runt didn't know what to make of me walking backwards, opened my gate and hurried in. He turned and went off somewhere. It was a close encounter. Apt. dweller's can't have pets so it must have been roaming around from somewhere. I don't like dogs that attack, and usually they don't for they got to be on a leash or kept in their yard only.

You take care now and I hope this never happens again. Here are prayers for protection from being attacked: You're welcome in advance for information. Stay safe!

I was twice attacked by dogs, both time when I was in Netherland.
The first one was small,he was not tied,he ran to me,barking..and when I was thinking Ok that's what it was, owner of that dog said only one word (probably on Dutch, because was unknown for me) and the dog stood in front of me and was silent.
And the other one...was some big breed..now,try to imagine the barking sound of that big dog,it was terrifying, the owner kept him and at the same time he try to calm me down, because who knows how I'm looked in that moment ,he try to explaining to me that his dog manifest LOVE on that way
Well, thanks a lot Mr. but I do not want such love!!!!!

@LowRiderX I think that he was just trying to talk you out of making a fuss over it. He knew it was wrong and was trying to say it was not his or the dog's fault.
