Just this week I had been asked about sometimes subbing on special ed bus rides as a para.
I got a call at 5:30 to ride one. It turns out, I was offered classroom as well.
So I will just round up my food and go to school today.
Happy last day of the month to you.

Happy last day of February. I hope your day goes well. Is this just a normal ride to and from school for them, or are they going on a trip?

This is their regular ride. If it is in their IEP to have a para on the bus the district has to supply one. The one that rides is sick.

@GardenGerty Oh okay, I see. Was the bus ride uneventful?

I felt like I was missing out by not being at the school, this let me get it out of my system. I really want to work from home if I can find something regular.

@GardenGerty there are companies that you can work from home. I hope you can find a good one! I applied for one years ago but with no customer service experience I wasnt hired.

@nonersays we sent one off before noon for an out of town appointment. One I was to ride the bus with was sick. One that was there we sent home because we believed he was ill. Two paras were already out, we sent the third one home. It was a very easy day. The situation has been so difficult this year that the teacher is retiring.

@TiarasOceanView I really doubt that I would go back to working in the school. I did this mostly because the teacher is a friend.

Yes, I do like riding the bus. I am really only responsible for the special needs students.

I am not really planning on going back. This was mostly because I really like the teacher, and we got a good chance to visit. Everyone in the classroom was sick or had appointments.

Para can be short for paraprofessional or paraeducator. Special education students who need one on one assistance qualify for this kind of help. I am trained specifically to work with certain students who have disabilities.

@GardenGerty Is there any potential that the fulltime job would be offered to you? (Would you take it if that was the case? )

It was a good day. Really they could have done without me, but they did not know that the students were all going to end up gone, as well as all the other paras.

It was a nice day. I got a lot of visiting in, as the kids were sick or at appointments for most of the day.
