I was contacted to attend a 50th year high school class reunion. Would you go? Have you ever gone to one? What was it like if you did?

@wolfgirl569 I wonder if one reason for class reunions is to show off? That would not appeal to me.

@1hopefulman No but many were the type that have to put on the show. Even while drowning in debt.

I've never gone to a high school reunion (and I wouldn't: I was severely bullied in school). They have reunions at college all the time, but I don't go to them, either, mainly because they're more about the university wanting the alum to donate money than about class reunions.

That is very understandable that you feel that way. I have a feeling that it will be hard to find many students. I tried to organize one a few years ago and I was only able to locate a handful.

@kepweng Here is my High School.
This is John F. Kennedy High School in Montreal. It is the High School I attended from 1967-1969. I skipped the 2nd school year by taking a couple of summer ...

@kepweng Yes, high school was free. We only had to pay for books and supplies. However, university is not free and I went for one year and then I got married and had to work.

I never went and I would not go, there were only a few girls that I really liked, so I would see no reasons to go.

I understand! In a Catholic school we were divided. The girls on one side and the boys on the other. So, I don't think I know any of the girls. I had a part time job all through high school and so did not hang around much. I remember 3 friends that I was close to but I have tried to find them a few times and I was unsuccessful. I'll see how it develops before I decide whether I will attend or not.

I went to my last two years of high school in Hawaii and graduated there. That's too far away to attend a reunion! But I went with my husband to his reunion in Arkansas...he went all 12 years with the same 16 kids.

@1hopefulman No, they didn't have their first until about the 40th year. Then they've had two or three since.

I couldn't attend any so far (the genuine classmates ones) due to distance, conveniences etc. BUT I made an effort every now and then attending the schoolmate gatherings (just people from the same schools or unis ).

I think that if we had kept in touch over the years it would be pleasant but we have had no contact in 50 years and I have a feeling there won't be many if it goes through.

@1hopefulman Let people remember you as they had 50 yrs ago. It is better that way I think. (I saw some old friends' pic currently on Facebook, and wanted to cry a bit.)

I have no interest in going to any of those stupid things, I wasn't popular and actually didn't know a lot of my classmates.

Lucky you @1hopefulman Since most of my school mates back then were Army brats many did not stay long enough for me to get to know them or visa versa.

I went to one a long time ago and loved seeing most of my classmates. It was wonderful catching up. The women looked much better than the men as far as aging went. I missed the other one I had planned to attend due to my husband's neck surgery.

@DianneN 20 is not bad. Ours will be 50 years later and I doubt they will be able to find many students. I tried to organize one a few years ago and was only able to locate a handful of students and they were scattered throughout this big country.

@WiseGhots We have never had one. So 50 years later is going to be a difficult one as it will be very hard to assemble many students since we will all be 65 years and older and scattered far and wide. I tried myself a few years ago and was not able to locate more that a handful.

I've never been to a high school reunion, but I went to a college reunion about five years ago. It was bittersweet. It was good to see people I hadn't seen in years. But I missed the people that weren't there.

My best friend and I went to our supposedly 20th class reunion, but no one showed up. My best friend refuses to go to another one. My fiance has a class reunion coming up in April. He asked me to go with him, but I don't know if I will. He lives in New Jersey and I live in North Carolina.
