the tin says this christmas cake is a rich fruit cake topped with glace cherries, almonds and pecans.
the fruit cake itself has sultanas, raisins, citrus peels and currants.
two days after opening this, mother had a craving for ice cream.
i bought salted caramel pretzel because a flavor we haven't had before.
i suggested that we eat it with a slice of christmas fruit cake.
man, eating a dense cake with ice cream sure is heavy on the tummy!
it felt like a snack than a dessert.
according to jane stammers of yumbles, fruitcake goes well with tea, cheese, champagne, coffee and ice cream.
what do you eat or drink with fruitcake?
what holiday/seasonal/festival food can you eat any time of the year?

@hereandthere Fruitcake with ice cream is a wonderful combination! (Alas, there is none here! Someone keeps eating all of my ice cream!)

The only fruitcake I ever really liked is a homemade one that my dad used to get as a Christmas gift from one of his customers. It was light on the fruit. But otherwise, I rarely eat fruitcake. If I were to, I'd have either water, tea, or black coffee - maybe unsweetened almond milk (I am very plain in the way of drinks). I love food and I can eat any food at any time of the year

our fruitcakes are always gifts and i love it when it's packed with everything. but i've seen youtube videos of how to make them with just juice. i have a relative who says she has gotten drunk on fruitcake but i hardly notice (and i don't drink at all)

@hereandthere I like birthday cake once a year and fresh fruit. My favorite is a fruit tart. I try to stay away from sugars because they are bad for the heart and cause cancer.

i don't think i've ever eaten fruit cake. i just know it's the joke that you get fruitcake for a christmas bonus. but that picture looks really yummy.
i've had cranberry nut bread, does that count?
