Do you miss certain phases of your life?

I remember Crosby Stills and Nash singing "Don't let the past/remind us of what we are not now," or something like that. But I admit that I sometimes miss certain phases of my life. I sometimes miss my Graduate School days, when I was part of a really cool Lab doing interesting research. I sometimes miss the days when I was really into softball, and couldn't wait for the next game or tournament. (I still play, but not with the same enthusiasm.) I miss playing with the other kids on the block after school in Chicago. And yes, I sometimes miss my horse days, when I'd take friends out to visit my horse and her horse friends. I'll attach a picture of my young neighbor friend visiting the miniature horses at our stable (which has since closed down). He must have been four or five at the time. Can you think of certain phases of your life that you miss, even if things are going well now?

Only when I still had my oldest boy too. The loss of him overshadowed everything else.

@TheHorse I hope you never understand it. No one should ever have too.

The loss of a child is virtually impossible for me to comprehend.

How about everything before age 50?

Heh. I have some bad memories before 50 and some good ones after. I'd gladly accept the lack of lower back pain that didn't come on until I was 30 or so.

@arthurchappell Sometimes I wish I'd been around for the post-war cattle drives from Texas to Montana.

There are times when I miss my younger self and had boundless energy and no aches or pains. It would be nice going back to when my children were little just for a short visit. I certainly wouldn't want to do the whole child raising thing again.

Heh. It would be a lot of work. Even being a teacher tires me out after a while.

@TheHorse I have watched a lot of shows with horses in it but I still am not a horse person. No offense to you Mr. Horse. I am a cats and dogs and dolphin person. I guess if I missed anything it would be when I was growing up in Minneapolis there was an area we called The North Side or Near North Side where there was a nice Jewish Community and we got along and then grew up and it was never the same again because riots came and Jews moved to the suburbs.

I would love to swim with dolphins on day. As for Jewish communities, I think the same thing happened in Chicago, though there are still some urban neighborhoods where there are many Jewish people (Hyde Park comes to mind).

@Hannihar Skokie is a suburb, close to Evanston (where I was born), I think. Hyde Park is on the South Side of Chicago, surrounding the University of Chicago.

@TheHorse Yes, there were Jews in Skokie. I love dolphine. They have them in Eilat and you have to order tickets to the show ahead of time and I cannot stay over night.

Of course the days when I had my son. I would give anything to have him back.

I miss my early childhood. It was so idylic... or seems so in hindsight.

Of course, hindsight is not 20/20. I can think of a fond time...and suddenly remember that I was sad about something at that time...

I miss my first "real" workplace when I started college - the co-worker friends, the whole atmosphere. It was an art supply / framing store . . . and there I met my now Hubby. I also miss my figure skating days in my mid 20s - mid 30s. I was in the best shape and I absolutely loved training on the ice every morning and night. Met a lot of nifty folks and skaters. I miss the day of my babies being babies!

I miss summer at the sea with my cousins, the lazy summer days at my grand mother farm.

@TheHorse We played Badminton with my cousin, we played music, organized picnics in the park in front of our grandmother house. We had many happy days.

I was just talking on the phone with an old friend. We miss the lazy Summer days at a Farm Camp we attended together in Michigan. We'd ride horses, catch painted turtles on the lake, and catch frogs in the stream. At rest time, we'd reach Archie and Superman comic books.

My dad was born in1930, but he talked more about being angry that he was too young to fight the Germans than about the depression.

@TheHorse To me the listening part was great, it was the energy needed to cook, clean, baths, later homework, Boy and Girl Scouts, school activities, church activities, and the list was endless! But I still miss it.

Littlies mostly need to be listened to. That doesn't require that much energy. Or does it? I'm not sure.

@JudyEv Having a horse was actually less expensive (well, maybe not, if you include board) and less labor-intensive than having a dog or cat.

Would you get another Herc and friend? I think my horse-owner days are done, due in part to my chronic back pain. But if I fall in love...

@TheHorse When we stop travelling so much it would be nice to have another sheep or two. They are very little trouble. I have a bad back but not chronic pain but it doesn't take much to make it play up so I won't be getting back into horses.
