Another piece of history on its way out the door

I’ve been doing a bit more decluttering and have another bunch of items that I’ll take to the op shop (opportunity shop/thrift shop) shortly. The one in our town is run by the Red Cross. One of the items is this apron that I made at school as a home science project when I was 16, which would have been in 1962. It is a half- or waist apron and gathered on to a waist-band. I remember we had to take a pin and ‘stroke’ all the little gathers with it. I’m not sure why now. It has a trim of ric-rac braid which was attached with blanket-stitch. It’s probably been worn about twice but now it’s being discarded. I wonder if someone will buy it?

There might be people out there who still like to wear aprons. I have a half apron that returned with me from Latvia. I have it tied to a food shelf in the kitchen. It has become a memento to me from my mama. She wore this apron cooking loving meals through my babyhood and my childhood. Scares me to think how old that apron is but I love gazing at it each day.

Vince wears an apron when he cooks but he wouldn't wear this one.

@moffittjc Okay Jeff. Just for you I'll keep it a bit longer - and next time I throw it out, I won't tell you. How's that for a bargain?

Yes, it does but neither of our sons will want it and it's just taking up room. I might chicken out in the end and keep it.

Well it's a good neutral colour and cheerful and of course, very artfully made.

@JudyEv May be it was a project to try to "unify" the school world, I fear it failed.

That's what I've been doing all week - sorting clothes out for the charity shop. I had all my husband's clothes to bag up, and while I was at it I got rid of quite a few things of my own. Fortunately, the charity collected them.

@JudyEv Yes, it wasn't a nice job. He was always a snappy dresser and had lots of good quality stuff, but it's all gone apart from a couple of his suits that my daughter wanted to keep.

It really is pointless for us to keep anything not essential. It must be pretty difficult sorting through your husband's items.

I'm surprised you still have it. I don't know what happened to my apron, which was my first Home Ec project in 9th grade. It was also yellow plaid with huge flowers on it and pockets.
