If you were offered the chance to help rebuild Notre Dame, would you do it?

I actually think I would.Even if I were not paid, it would be an honor to be part of the process. I've always had a thing for stained glass windows. I would love to be trained in, and be a part of, redoing some of the stained glass windows that were lost.

Oh, no. Someone comes along, screaming, “Who replaced the Gregorian chants with Buck Owens songs???” They’ll know who. Honestly, when I saw your headline I thought about all the people making monetary donations. My first thought when the French president said they were going to have a fundraising event: “you mean that place wasn’t insured?????????”

@MALUSE The Pope already offered money. Why not to give money to the poor?

Heard that the alter was safe. Good to know that. Most of the time the fire fighters throw so much water that what the fire does not destroy the water does!!!! And as far as helping is concerned I think the experts would do a better job.

There are always sundry jobs like bring ladder, buy this or teas, coffees or water. etc. Sundry jobs. I would help only if they wrote there, Vanny worked for 1 hour here, and the nature of her work was carrying tea from x location to y location in a single thermos bottle.

If they found a "niche" for me, I would take them up on their offer.

@TheHorse Probably I would be giving out food and drink for such heavy work its my kind of thing. I did ustd to haul a lot of bricks around most weeks for my Dad. Food and drink is very important too.

I would do what I could. I have a skill set, but maybe I'd just be hauling rubble.

It would probably be best for any building that I keep away from rebuilding it. I'm not a very practical person.

@TheHorse I like learning new things too, that's fun. But it doesn't seem to make me more practical But if you do the stained glass windows I can make sure the church sounds the same inside. Acoustic calculations should be more my thing.

@Torunn That sounds very cool! I had a College friend (he was/is a violinist) who actually went to Europe and studied the acoustics of various major cathedrals. We lost touch so I don't know his methodology or what he found.

I consider myself pretty practical. And I like learning new things.

Do not worry about the stained glass. It is confirmed that its three rose windows are safe, along with its great organ. I hope they hire serious professionals to do the work. It seems that the fire was accidentally started exactly by those who were working there.

That's what I've heard as well. I'm glad the stained glass and organ are safe.

@TheHorse The Altar, the Cross, the Statue of The Pietà are also safe. Thanks God they did not follow the suggestion of someone to "throw tons of water with the Canadair".

@thehorse I’ll be there next month to grieve but I’m not so sure about spending millions upon millions of francish euros on a vanity project.

If Westminster abbey was burning, you would prefer to remove the ruins and install a MacDonald's on it, instead of rebuilding it ? Do you know that the km 0 for all French roads is at Notre-Dame ? It is the heart of France, and a house opened for free to any visitor, nobody would call rebuilding Notre-Dame, or any other cathedral, "a vanity project".

No I am not skilled enough to do any of the work. But if it were around here I would help with the clean up part.
