Clean, clever humour suits me best

The photo is of Vince sitting the cabin of some sort of big machine in the mining museum at Greenbushes.
We recently attended a play called ‘Senior Moments’. One thing that struck me about the show was the lack of reliance on vulgarity to raise a laugh.
One of the skits was about a musical group called ‘The Finders’ and it was a spoof on ‘The Seekers’ which was a popular folk quartet some years back. So ‘f*ck’ came up a few times as a bit of word-play on ‘folk’ but apart from that and a few ‘bloodys’ thrown in (and let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be Australian without a bloody or two), it was all good, clean humour. I really think some of our younger comedians could learn a thing or two in this respect.
If comedians have to rely on filth and obscenities for raising a laugh, I’m not really interested. Give me some clever witticisms and I'm happy.
I’ll see you all after Easter. Have a happy, Holy break with not too much chocolate.

I am also tired of the need for obscenities people now have. It is not something that happens in English only. In Spanish, it seems that nobody is able to utter a whole sentence if it doesn´t have 1 or 2 of what was used to be called 'bad words'.

@marguicha yes indeed, obscenities and swear words in fact make watching a show more unbearable.

@marguicha we have observed increased use of swear words in Indian TV Programs, Movies as well as YouTube videos, and unfortunately many think of such words' use as cool !!
Simply so ridiculous and setting a bad bad example for the youngsters.

It happens in English comedy shows all the time. The 'f' word is used all the time and people think it is hilarious.

I don't think I'm prudish either and if a joke is witty then I'm fine with it. But pure filth and vulgarity leaves me very cold indeed.

Happy Easter to you, and I agree about the comics. I can't stand vulgar comedians.

@hereandthere In this day and age I think you have to be prepared for some swearing - damn, blast, sh*t bl*ddy, b*stard, even 'b*gger' are commonly heard in Australia and no-one bats an eye. And the 'f' word is becoming increasingly common too unfortunately. That's my most un-favourite swear word.

Like you I prefer my humour without obscenity or vulgarity. Bathroom humour rally isn't that funny.
Also comedians , or any speaker who relies on putting women down get no laughs from me,

@morleyhunt If it’s a ‘joke’ you couldn’t repeat in front of your grandmother it’s best not repeated at all.

@xFiacre that a good way to put it most of the time. My mother had "no" sense of humour at all so no joke would pass that test. My mother inlaw on the other hand was much more appreciative of a joke or story.

@xFiacre @morleyhunt I love witty jokes and innuendo is usually okay too but some go too far and don't care who is in their audience.

I am also for clean witty humor and not the one that involves obscenity or some bad taste to hurt feelings.

I remember the seekers and really thought a lot of them. I'm glad you explained that Vince was in a museum and not in his basement practicing for driver retesting.

Well, I too do not like too much vulgarity or obscenity in shows for laugh, or entertainment. One or two swear words are ok, but nothing more.

Some can't say two lines without resorting to some very vulgar words.

I am like you Judy, I cannot stand to hear people on stake using a vulgar language and to say obscenities to make people laugh. I think there is nothing funny hearing bad words. As you are going to disappear for Easter, let me wish to you and Vince a Happy Easter.

Some can barely string two lines together without resorting to (very) bad language.

How lovely to see your name! Are you doing a lot of teaching online? And yes thanks, it was a great show. Regards to Ann too. I guess she is still quilting. :)
