I come to the rescue – again

The photo is of two of the lovely dogs that were at the endurance ride. The top one is Caris who belongs to the couple who have been catering for these rides for over 30 years. The dachshund is Winston. I mentioned in my last post that we had no water in the laundry. This was really puzzling as both the cold and hot water taps weren’t working. Everywhere else, we had hot and cold water as we were supposed to. It seemed odd that both lines or taps would stop together. Vince went up in the ceiling but the hot water tank and pipes all seemed okay. Eventually I said that maybe the single outlet was blocked, rather than the two taps being at fault. Vince removed the filter at the outlet and it was totally blocked with copper residue. (Our water has quite a bit of copper in it.) We’ve left the filter out for the moment and will buy a new one in due course. So now we have both hot and cold water in the laundry again and I’m a happy camper. Time and again, we’ve found that solutions to problems are often very simple fixes.

Cute dogs . Yes, most of the time, many problems have very simple solutions. When I was in college and my computer suddenly stopped working, the solution was: unplug the power cable, plug it back, start. The "complex" solution was: unplug power cable, clear any dust inside the PC unit, plug it back, start. 9 times out of 10 it worked like a charm .

And it really pays to try all the simple things first before getting too upset. Check cords are in properly and switched on - just like you say.

@JudyEv well, I rarely get upset . I like to analyse things and I don't usually take unnecessary actions. Most of the time .

@Kasjnak Haha. You sound a bit like me. I'll write something, think about what I've written then add 'usually' or 'mostly'. I like to give myself an 'out' in case I'm proven wrong.

Glad you were able to find a simple fix to your problem. Wish all of life's problems had simple fixes to them.

I am glad you found what the problem was. I usually immediately check the filter, we have limestone deposits that built up.

We often put bicarbonate of soda in the tank to adjust the pH but we haven't had any trouble with filters before.

@Janet357 No, Caris isn't mine but we have had corgis in the past. They are lovely little dogs.

@JudyEv but that pembroke, i like her so much because her belly is almost sagging to the ground. It’s very expensive too. Is she yours now? I hope you will post pictures of claris often. My tight hugs for the two of them!

That's good that the water was an easy fix. Winston is so cute! He is a gorgeous dapple. I used to raise mini dachshunds and they have such a huge personality for a little dog.

@JudyEv I'm very partial to mini dachshunds. Although I love my big guy, Duke, also who is a German Shepard.

(whispering back) I don't know. I waited and waited but he was absolutely flummoxed so before he suggested putting a hole in the wall, I thought I'd speak out!

Good thinking Judy on the solution to your water problem! Is having so much copper in your water a problem for you at all? Does it pose any health risks?

@JudyEv As a swimming pool operator, I know all about controlling the pH of water! Thankfully, we don't have a lot of copper in our water, because I know how bad the staining can be!

It causes a blue stain in the basins and showers after a period of time. As soon as the stain starts to appear we put x amount of bicarbonate of soda in the tank which adjusts the pH and all is good till next time.

I'm glad nit was a simple solution. You had your thinking cap on, good job. Those dogs are so cute. Winston looks like my Luke. Luke's hair is short but the markings are the same.

My filter will gunk up with rust and then the water will stop flowing into my faucets as well. The filter gets gunky really fast unfortunately.

Beautiful corgi (I think) and dachshund! Ah, such a relief to resolve the issue in a snap - otherwise it's a lot of hair pulling and stress!

@JudyEv Oh, that's hard when the pipes are not in an easy access place - yes, it's good you could just deal with it at the outlet. Corgi's are beautiful - they look so friendly .

We couldn't work out what it could be so it was a relief to find out. The pipes are all in walls and underground so it was great that it was just a blocked outlet. And yes, Caris is a corgi. She is so cute.
