What's the most frightening medical condition you've ever had?

I have had a few frightening medical conditions, so it inspired me to pose the question you see above. I've had chest pains, in my experience, most people automatically think heart attack when they hear about chest pains, so that might be what you'd think my most frightening was, but you'd be wrong. Turns out I had chest inflammation by the way, in case you wondered. I've also had ridiculously swollen ankles (which my mother set me into a panic about because she said it might be heart failure, though thankfully it turned out not to be.) My MOST frightening medical issue though, I have to admit, was when I was spitting blood one morning.

When I was 16 I had a crimp in my colon. The symptoms were intense abdominal pain. I had emergency surgery, and it's been OK ever since.

I could entertain you with frightening medical conditions for a long time but I won't. I'm not a one who likes talking about this topic. If an acquaintance asks me how I am, I always say that I'm fine even if this is not the case. I only talk to family and friends about my medical condition.

@MALUSE, thank you for your input anyway, I can definitely respect you not liking to talk about this topic, I know many people who feel the same way.

I had to have my gallbladder out but it wasn't anywhere close to being gangrenous! That would be scary!

For me, I guess it were the really low blood sugars that I had while carrying Eli.

When I had a concussion I lost my memory for a while and I wasn't sure what was real. I couldn't figure out if I was dreaming or not. Physically it wasn't painful, but it was scary to lose my memory. I didn't recognize any of the streets around me..

@jnrdutton Thank you. I am glad it is over, fortunately the memory problems didn't last for a long time and I was able to go back to work after one week.

An ovarian tumor. I've had asthma attacks that have sent me to the emergency room many times, and a broken ankle, but nothing was as frightening as that tumor. The doctor kept assuring me it was "most likely" not cancer (which, thank God, turned out to be correct), but he kept talking about what would happen if they had to summon an oncologist.

I had a non malignant brain tumor removed from the back of one of my optic nerves when I was younger. They kept me sedated, but awake for the 8 hour surgery. At various times they had to tell me to move my feet, or wiggle my fingers. I can still remember how very cold it was in there, and the conversations that the staff had and the songs that were sang during my surgery.

I think my most frightening issue is the seizures I've been having since the fire. I'm on medication to control them and the doctors are now weaning me off the medication to see if they are under control. They think that the seizures were a combination of the reaction to the fire and becoming homeless, moving in with my boyfriend, losing my beloved animals and all my personal belongings and vehicle and many more issues. It was more stress than I was prepared to handle all at once. Right now I am frightened to go off the medication although I do trust the doctor....I won't start until this weekend and the emergency room isn't that far away. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

@jnrdutton I am slowly feeling better. I am going to start going off the seizure meds on Monday morning. I want to have my regular doctor available if something happens during the process. I think that going off the medication is going to help a lot of other issues I am having because of them. One of them is not having a lot of energy to do other chores that I normally do. It will be interesting to see what happens. Oh, by the way, I love your designs. I ought to get you to do something for my teddy bear business cards and the design with my teddy bear.

I certainly wish you the best with going off the meds. Stress (especially of that magnitude) can do strange things to people.

I was born with VSD (basically a hole in my heart) and that was scary for my parents when I was first born. but over time the hole closed and it's not an issue anymore. I had chicken pox when I was three, still have some scars from that. it's hard to tell a three year old to stop scratching i can't think of any medical issues later in life, for the most part I've been healthy other than two broken arms. knock on wood

When I experienced stomach pain and fever for days and I have to be confined at the hospital. They suspected it to be appendicitis but the surgeon subjected me to ultra sound, the result was something to do with indigestion and I had GERD,
