Doodles the cat doesn’t have to worry about working. He just keeps himself clean and handsome, and his daddy takes care of his expenses.
Before retiring from a teaching career, I received a salary with built in sick days and personal days.
When I had high school jobs and jobs during my university days, I got paid by the hour.
Both my sons receive salaries and yearly bonuses with built in sick and personal days, even paternity days.
Some people receive tips, commissions, hourly rates, salaries, and/or bonuses.
How do/did you get paid?

My last job was with a non profit organization. The pay wasn't that great but I got free medical insurance, 10 days sick leave, 3 personal days, most major holidays and 10 vacation days, all paid. I was paid by the hour but always worked at least 40 hours a week.

Directly into my bank account from two pensions and SSI. MY writing money goes into paypal , I was a salaried worker at the end of my career and early on hourly. I always had personal time and sick time as well as vacation time.

@DianneN Yes, I usually traded my raises for extra vacation. It was worth it to me.

I guess it depends on the job and country. I got paid every other week when I taught, and my husband got paid every other week, too, except never on the same Friday. That way, we had a paycheck coming in every week. Now that we are retired, we get our pensions once a month.

I get paid per rental house, sometimes cash sometimes check.
When I owned the landscape service I charged by the job.
When I was a waitress by the hour plus tips.
Baby sitting by the night, or if I worked all week.

@DianneN My last job I got paid a salary and had 4 weeks' vacation and some sick days; but I don't remember how many. It was mainly based on how much unpaid overtime you worked and how they happened to feel that day. lol It was a family-owned business.

Like @LindaOHio, I also receive benefits from the government due to being on disability at the moment. I used to work temp jobs where I got paid bi-weekly without any health insurance benefits. Due to my health issues, I haven't had salaried employment since right after I graduated from college some many, many years ago.

I teach voice which is an hourly gig. I love to get paid as much as I do, doing something I love. I also write legal blogs--less fun and less money--that is paid by the blog--but that extra each month allows savings. We are on a mission to pay everything off before retiring--

@DianneN I am a licensed attorney and psychotherapist--but mostly what I do is teach voice--I sang mezzo-soprano for many years and am now singing spinto--I do a little opera here and there as my teaching schedule permits--
Most law firms have websites that they need content for--I work for a group of law firms in Oklahoma and provide content for a number of their websites--
It is actually a nice mix of work--I enjoy everything that I do--which I think is often missing in most work situations

I'm so impressed with your mission. Good for you!
You must have a beautiful gift of a singing voice. I have the worst voice on earth.
Are you an attorney? I don't understand what a legal blog is. My son and his wife, along with other family members, are lawyers. Would they be interested in your blog?

Before I was married I was on weekly pay with two weeks vacation a year. Can't remember if there was sick pay - I was never sick. After I was married whatever work I did was on an hourly rate as I had to work round husband and children. I didn't work at all after the children were born until they went to school.

Glad to hear you were never sick. I got sick at least twice a year when I first started teaching. After a while, I didn't need my sick days, and they accumulated until I retired. I wound up getting half a year's pay then, but they have cut that practice out of the contract.
I'm happy you stayed home with your children. I did, too, until my eldest was in 7th grade. Those early years are so important.

@JohnRoberts Those third checks were an extra blessing, since they not only added to the coffer, but they didn't take out some deductibles. . No such luck anymore.

@DianneN I was paid every two weeks at my former job. That occasional third check of the month was big.

I just try to find means online since I can't work a normal job. All I want to do is become a graphic novel creator and screenwriter, so thankfully working online can give me time to work on that!

@DianneN I didn't teach. I worked for 20 years as assistant to Director in Wetland Biogeochemistry. Then was moved to School of the Coast & Environment but still worked for the Wetland group with the reorganization. Then I went directly in the school with the Development office raising funds for School. Next move was to website editing and management for the school because I kept finding mistakes. That is what I was doing at the time of retirement. It was interesting and lots of good topics going on with the research.

We get paid on a bi-monthly basis, taht is every 15th and 30th of the month. For those who are with the company for 3 years and more , we have our medical provider for free. We also have our 13th month pay given every June and December and bonus also on December.

That sounds awesome! We used to get our health benefits for free, then they made us pay. However, my husband's university system included spouses and children, so I used his and didn't have to pay. I still don't and we are both retired. My friends complain that medical coverage costs them a fortune every month. We are so lucky.
