Its My Time - I Asked For Help

I have come to the point that I have to hire people to do things I was doing myself, but it seems whenever I get a handyman he turns out to be not what he posed as and does not know his butt from a hole in the ground. But..... I made the appointment last week for a meeting today, he looked at the door and gave me a price. I hired an older man this time. I have used him once before and I know my tenant has. I got a list of what he will need and I got all of it but screws and delivered it to the tenants house, so his job is on for tomorrow. I am thinking of asking him if he hangs sheet rock because I hate that job! Oh, and I got a nap in today! A whole 2 hours. How was your day?

You are right, we cannot do all the time everything ourselves. I am glad you decided to hire a handyman for the work.

I think that its very wise of you to source out some of the work. Drywalling would be one that I would source out, that is such back-breaking heavy work. My husband and I did a bit of it in a home we owned when we were in our 20's, but never again.

We hire out everything these days it seems, except for the new paint job in our little master bath that my hubs just did.

@andriaperry That's sweet of you. We've been lucky, we believe, so far, with all the work we've had done. At least we were pleased with the results and thought the price fair.

I do all my own painting or I pay my little sister to do it when she needs money and I want help. Honest people are hard to come by.

"does not know his butt from a hole in the ground". I'm sorry. I know your post is serious but this struck me funny and I really needed the laugh so thank you. I hope your hired hand works out well for you. I hate sheet rock and it's something I'm wishing I never allowed to be put in my mini.

@andriaperry I wish I researched more on mine. I can see some of the seams and flaws. Down the road I may hire someone to come in and put the wood panels up I want. I'm trying to use different words too. Some days are better than others.

You`re welcome! its supposed to say another word for butt but I am trying to stop all this unladylike talk. I have thought about using the super thin plywood in the old home place, its lightweight and no mudding and sanding the seams.

I hope you can get some dependable help. My husband always tends to try to do everything himself, because of exactly what you said. Still, there must be some dependable people out there. Houses get built and fixed all the time. I feel like he's just got too much work ahead to do it all himself, and I can't help him that much.

Handymen are a dime a dozen and MOST of them are fly by nights from my experience. Even more of them are honest to goodness shysters. I think it's just the nature of the business. Anyone who can turn a few screws and do a couple things can call themselves a handyman and set up shop. When you find a good one you definitely hang on to them.

Yesterday was ok. I wanted a nap, but didn't get one. At least you found one someone to do the actual job. My uncle's "friend" is supposed to have come to fix my front porch and put up a new awning last week. He never showed up. My mother is going to get someone else to do it.

I hope he works out well for you. I am glad, to hear you got a nap in today. I was all ready to get some work done when I had that pop in visiter. I was not happy about it as she brought her two little ones with her. They were here from noon until dinner time 7pm. By the time I was cleaning up it was ten.Needless to say I did not get anything done.
