One of the Stones’ most famous early songs and another #1 hit. Though “Ruby Tuesday” is credited to Jagger-Richards, Jagger stated while he loves the song he did none of the writing. Richards wrote the lyrics and Jones composed the music. “Ruby Tuesday” is a free spirited woman and Richards initially said inspiration came from a groupie he knew. Later in his autobiography, Richards wrote “Ruby Tuesday” was former girlfriend Linda Keith who dumped him for Jimi Hendrix and got into drugs. He failed to win her back. The Stones were actually more sophisticated than the Beatles at this point in coming up with different and unusual sounds. Here, musical whiz Jones plays piano and Richards and Wyman do a dual bass on the track. IN thre clip you see Richards on piano and Jones on flute. From the album “Between the Buttons,” “Ruby Tuesday” was B side to “Let’s Spend the Night Together” and benefited from that song’s controversy by receiving more radio play.
