On Mother's Day... He Lost $100!

My son took me down into the village for a coffee and dessert yesterday afternoon and while I was busy holding onto our grandson's hand, he overheard a conversation just ahead of us on the street. The man was frantically checking his pockets for a $100 dollar bill that wasn't in his pocket any longer. I don't know if he ever found it, but we both were wondering why on earth he had such a large bill in his pocket. I know that restaurants are very expensive on Mother's Day, but wouldn't it have been wiser just to carry a credit card? If he somehow lost it, he could easily simply call and cancel it! If there is a way to really ruin a happy day... that would be it! I hope he did find it, and learned something from the scare! If he didn't find it, I certainly hope that someone who REALLY needs the money will be the one who finds it. BTW... I recovered almost the minute my son and grandson arrived and had an awesome day with the family!! What is the largest amount of money that you have lost??

Does seem a bit careless to have $100 loose in your pocket. He should have had a wallet. Poor guy...Hope he found it

I do too. That is a lot of money to suddenly not have at your disposal! It was definitely careless, but I don't think that he will ever do it again!!

@Hate2Iron I don't think so either unless he has lots of those $100 bills hanging around

Being robbed... now that I'm thinking about it, I think that I would rather lose a bill than what you must have gone through!!

@LadyDuck Now that I know the details... your story is worse than I could have imagined. I'm glad that you are okay now and hope the guy was caught!! I think that I will start carrying my bag over my head.

@Hate2Iron I had my handbag over my head on my shoulder, the guys were 3, the policeman told me "next time, let you handbag go", I know he is right, but the first reaction is to try to keep your purse.

I hope that person found his money. We keep a few hundred dollar bills in our wallets for emergencies, but I've never lost any money. Years ago my husband thought he lost a large sum of cash when he went to pick up our new car. He realized that he had left it on his desk and returned to get it. Whew! So glad you felt better and were able to enjoy your Mother's Day.

Your story about your husband did remind me of something I lost... never found it sadly. It was one of the first earrings my husband bought for me one Christmas. I think that I would rather have lost money! :(

That is horrible! Can't imagine what kind of people would do that! It's like they are saying... I deserve the money and you don't!!

I have never really lost much money. I am just too careful. But that being said, while I mostly use credit card or debit card for purchases, I do usually carry at least $40 cash. But not in my pocket. In my wallet. And when I travel, like when I went to Miami recently, I had $400 cash in my pocket, and this weekend going to visit family in Milwaukee I will have $300 cash in my wallet. When we go to Mexico on occasion (like once every couple of years) it is not unusual for me to travel with $500 or more in cash.

Sounds like you think it through carefully. I keep just what I might need in my wallet. I have seen all too often how easy it is to lose it! So far, I've been pretty lucky!

That would have been an awfully sad experience to encounter. I hope that he did find his bill that he lost. I don't recall losing any money. I remember my Dad lost a bunch of a thousand dollar bills, I quietly explained to him that money like that should be in his bank account. The poor guy never found them, and looked for them for months.
