Leaping Lemurs

Lets pretend to be a lemur

This is Bob making a lemur of himself. Of course it was at my request. These ruffled lemurs are in the Madagascar exhibit, along with hissing cockroaches and some other things. There was an informative post about the two ruffled lemurs. The male is 32 years old. That is about the oldest they are expected to live, even in captivity. The zoo cuts his food extra small and makes sure he has what he needs. The female in the exhibit is thirteen years old and is much more lively. When we came by they were both curled up sleeping, enjoying the late spring sunshine. Nearby is a Monarch way station that provides blooming plants and mist for lots of butterflies, including monarchs. The carpenter bees were busy there pollinating the blooms.

emporia zoo, clematis, May 2019
Right now they have all kinds of pansies and lots of lovely iris. I noted blue sage in the monarch station, among other things. Here is a beautiful pink clematis that was growing by one of the walkways.

@rebelann I know they grow in Oklahoma. I have not grown any except the wild one that will take over your property. I have been told they like their feet in the shade but their head in the sun.

Cute. Hope the older lemur is happy. Hate to hear of them getting old. Any animal.

He seemed very content. Many zoos now offer enrichment and activities for their residents. There was a bare tree in this exhibit, with lots of entertaining toys and such fastened to it for lemurs to play with and investigate.

I do not think they are bad in this environment and they do not seem to attack people They are as big as your thumb.

One of my freinds was married in the lemur enclosure at Bristol zoo! His wife has a bit of a 'thing' about lemurs!

That is funny, and sweet. As nicely as this one is landscaped and decorated with flowers all season I can imagine it being a lovely setting for a wedding.
