PetSmart: This customer is not happy with price changes and more

While we are on the road, we often visit a PetSmart to have one of our dogs groomed. Most know you can go online and set up an appointment ahead of time. Recently we stopped at a PetSmart we had visited several times previously. We let the groomer know which dog the appointment would be for and they found his info in their computer. An appointment was set for the same grooming he always has while at PetSmart. To our surprise, when we went to retrieve our dog the price was $20 more than usual. Someone had put in some extra services, which I requested be refunded. One was refunded, but the other remained. Also, an extra fee for being there on a Friday is now $5.00. Previously the extra fee was $3.00 which is insulting enough. PetSmart does some wonderful things when it comes to charity and we have always been impressed by that. However, we have to be done with that type of service. We have four dogs we care for, so you can imagine our expenses. If we had short haired dogs, we could handle all of the grooming ourselves. Yes, we have contacted corporate. They were going to look into it. It has been a week and still no response. Hmmm.. No more PetSmart for this family. Oh-and the dog kibble we purchased at PetSmart can be gotten online at a lower price. We like to add that to the dog food we make at home. Now we will learn how to properly groom our dogs with long hair or find another groomer!

Love the twinkle in the dog's eye. I agree that groomers should not do anything extra if you haven't asked for it. I sure hope you find a better groomer. Took a peek online maybe this can help. /search?cflt=groomer&find_loc=Charlotte%2C+NC
People use Yelp to search for everything from the city's tastiest burger to the most renowned cardiologist. What will you uncover in your neighborhood?

Will check out the Yelp info you shared @RasmaSandra How are you enjoying Daytona? Just visited that area and it was so nice to be at the beach a few days.

@PatZAnthony Daytona is fine and I live in a very quiet area it is just the summer and the tropical heat that is kind of hard to take so at least I can walk to the beach.

@RasmaSandra We lived in the area some years back and did not mind the heat when the breezes were keeping us cool, but there were day also that were really hard to deal with.

I have had my beefs with PetSmart when I took my late dog Jubilee (She was named after one of the X Men characters) and I received from the groomer was a tongue lashing that I did not properly care for my dog. Talk about wanting to tell her to go to blazes would be an understatement. Next time I will take my dog at an mom and pop shop.

Yes, a Mom and Pop place would be better! We have been to a few, but when have to travel to another area, we don't always get what we want. How dare anyone tell us we are not caring for our pets. If we are taking them for grooming that is a huge thumbs up!

I used to like PetSmart but not anymore, I've heard a rumor that they don't like to let pit bulls into their stores which is insulting as they are usually very sweet dogs. Have you checked out Walmart.com? I feed Ally Blue Wilderness which they recently added to their pet food stock.

We make part of their dog food and then can order kibble online for a good price. We mix the two. Will check out Walmart as well @rebelann We really like the groomers at the stores we had gone to over the years. PetSmart said they would respond with more details, but nothing yet! You know how expensive it is to take care of pets. We won't be getting more, unless we get another horse (yes, expensive too! But we can groom these ourselves).

I can't believe they are charging you for extra services you didn't request. That's just not right.

It was a shocking mess @simone10 Glad the groomer could at least make an adjustment, but we still paid over what we had expected and people will not return there if that practice continues.

That's a bit over the top to add extra services. And extra because it's Friday! It seems they're making a welter of it.

I do not like surprises like that. Glad you got some of your money back. Cute dogs. I buy cat food online at chewy.com There are many YouTube videos online showing you how to do just about anything.

Chewy.com is one good place and they send me coupons! We have a senior dog with special needs and we especially want him professionally groomed. Looking online to learn how to take care of our pets (2008?) is how I found eHow and started writing for money online! Before that, I just helped college students for $. Hope you are having a good day @CarolDM

Hello @BelleStarr What part of the country are you in today? We use a private groomer when we are in one area, but while in the section of NC where we were at the time PetSmart was the best choice. We know two of the groomers there, but they have no control over the increase in price. No idea how extra services were added, but we are done with PetSmart.

We try to have coupons for services, but none were available at that time @jstory07 The rub was being charged extra b/c Friday is part of the weekend now! Give us a break-if they are trying to lose customers, this is the way to do it!

Adding services just to make you pay more is not a nice practice, it's a scam. This is something I could not stand.

They are shooting themselves in the foot by increasing their charges so much and have lost four of your customers! Silly people! It makes no sense besides you should get a discount for taking all four there!

It will save you a lot of money to groom them yourself. Maybe you could watch a video on utube about dog grooming.

Watching YouTube videos years ago about grooming is what got me started writing online. The video was from eHow and anyone could join-what fun! We can do the majority of what they need and our vet will do their nails, so guess we will handle it here! We have a special tub to give them a bath, but the long hair can be an issue to do correctly.

@PatZAnthony It's always nice to be able to do it yourself. Most dogs hate to go in to be groomed.

PetSmart needs to be careful, or they are going to find themselves struggling to stay in business! With online companies like Chewy and Amazon getting a bigger piece of the pet pie, PetSmart may find itself in trouble if they don't adopt more customer-friendly policies and prices.
