A 'dry' toilet in a park in Nevers, France

We’ve spent today in Nevers in France. Although it was threatening rain, it stayed fine all day. We met some very friendly people too.
After mooring the boat around lunch-time, we walked into town. It was quite a distance but we managed to get to the cathedral which I’ll write about later. We also went to a convent where the incorrupt body of Saint Bernadette lies in a casket for people to view.
On our way between the two we passed through a very pretty park which had a number of markets set up under tents. I was amused by the ‘dry’ toilet which was situated in an old-style caravan. Luckily there were other toilets around so I didn't need to make use of this one. I think we’ll be moving on tomorrow.

It is a toilet that operates without flush water, you can see here how they work.

@LadyDuck @acelawrites Thanks for the information, Anna. We had a PortaPotti once which used chemicals but it had a limited capacity.

Not a big fan of "dry toilets" but better than nothing. My cousin's name is Bernadette. She was named for the saint.

@JudyEv It isn't too common in the US. There is a celebrity I know of that has the name, but she is the only other one I know of.

I would love to have seen the body of St Bernadette, that is amazing. I did see St Therese's gorgeous hair in Liseaux.

@JudyEv When she entered the convent she had to cut her long beautiful blond hair off and they kept it.

@BelleStarr It does seem strange that they kept her hair if they then kept it or perhaps the family kept it at the time.

It is interesting that I am seeing these now in some places as well as other Porta Potties, etc. But I do not blame you I do not like these at all either and avoid them at all costs when I can

@JudyEv Yeah, you are so right about it. In fact us men don't care about lushness when Mr. Number one or two approach! haha

You are lucky to be able to travel to other countries. For me, even traveling to cities is not easy financially let alone traveling abroad.

Yes, we are lucky. We worked hard for a long time and now we are reaping the rewards.

An outhouse on wheels. Could be worse circumstances if you have to go.
