The First Month of Retirement

Four weeks ago today I left work for the final time.
So, what has the first month of retirement been like?
BUSY!!!
I’ve had a number of people over to check things at the house, given that it’s “all mine” now. I’m happy to report the air conditioner, furnace, and electricity are all in good working order and didn’t need to be replaced.
There was a tree that had grown to the point where I could barely walk under some of the branches. It was also dragging the garage roof. No more. That was a double blessing, because it means my next-door neighbors also got their deck back (it had really drooped over the years). I’m sure it’ll be good for the next 30 years!
Additionally, I’ve been cleaning house. And by that, I mean clearing out the clutter. I just paid off the house, meaning I’ve lived there 30 years. It’s funny how much clutter you can accumulate over that amount of time. So I’ve been cluttering up the local Goodwill store with a lot of it.
I’m doing planning, too. The carpet in my semi-finished attic (it’ll take too long to explain) is old and would probably destroy Stanley Steemer’s equipment,
so my plan is to remove it. I don’t know exactly what’s under it, so I don’t know if I’ll get to put vinyl flooring down or have to get sub-flooring first, or what.
Traveling? I haven’t done much in the first month, thanks to the OVC (Ohio Valley Crud). But, as I mentioned in another discussion, one of the benefits of being retired is being able to stay home, rest, and recover from being sick. It is amazing how much quicker I started to improve after adding a seriously overlooked medication — REST — to the formulary.
However, I did take an overnighter to the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area on the Kentucky/Tennessee border. We’ve also had our first state tournament of the year (in which I played well enough to cash both days).
For month two, there’s a doctor’s appointment, a tournament at my favorite course, and who knows from there! That’s part of the fun of being retired: each day is different, simply because it can be different.
Ramblin’ man? No, but I like to ramble a lot for a middle-aged lady

Wow, so much to do, so little time? Is this the retirement you were looking forward to?

I hope not “so little time.” I’m not even 60!

@FourWalls You know "time" can be considered a relative term. Wishing you many enjoyable years of retirements and concerts to attend...
