To get rid of netflix or not to get rid of netflix

This is something I've been thinking about lately. I don't use it all that often, but I want to watch Stranger Things when it comes back on. However, I sort of want it there for when I do feel like watching something. We have Spectrum here, and there just isn't a lot of stuff on that I watch. I mean, I'll watch American Horror Story when it comes back on, but obviously I don't need netflix for that. I'm just trying to decide whether I want to get rid of it and pick up kindle unlimited again? I'm paying about $13.99 for netflix at the moment and Kindle Unlimited (books) is $10.00. Here's the dilemma on that, I am not reading as much as I once did. So decisions, decisions. Do I go ahead and get rid of it, forget about stranger things (it's not super important that I watch Stranger Things) and get the kindle unlimited thing.. or do I get rid of Netflix and just not get anything? I don't want to regret getting rid of netflix, but I just don't know. What do you do when you are indecisive over a financial thing like this?

I am the only one that watches it, and I don't even watch it that much. I can be spending that money on other things. I've gone ahead and canceled it. I am trying to do that for a lot of things, get rid of things I no longer use.

@amandajay Yes. I used to have a bad habit of letting things like that go out of my account, even if I am not using them, I'd spend money on it. Now I am happy to get rid of things when I do not need them anymore.

@ScribbledAdNauseum true if you are not using much, no point of spending money on it every month.

Just cancel Netflix subscription and see if you could manage without it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Great! You did the right thing. I am also thinking of cancelling my Netflix subscription, as it is on the higher side and I do not get to see so many series/ movies.

I am sure I can. I already canceled it. I might renew it later, but for right now I am glad I got rid of it.

@dpk262006 It is a service that you can easily re-subscribe to when you are ready. I like that about netflix.

maybe make a list of good and bad and weigh options I guess. I was going to drop Netflix once and they cut my bill down to 9 bucks. My daughter was glad cause that's mostly what she watches in her room. you can have one other person on it as guest. with your password for Netflix at same time watching other things. I am glad because I discovered Orange is the new Black will finally be back in July if I am still around that is Spectrum is quite high. They was raising the bill 10 bucks a year till I was paying 70 bucks a month on it Then we moved and got a special for 40 a month again.

I don't pay the spectrum bill, but I do pay for netflix. I am the only one that uses it and so it just isnt' worth it. I do have it on my firestick and on the t.v. in the den though. I went ahead and got rid of it, but I had considered seeing if they'd give me a deal.

I just don't watch enough television to justify keeping the subscription. I went ahead and canceled it. I may not get the kindle unlimited thing either, I guess I will wait to see.

@LadyDuck I think a lot of the things on television are rubbish anymore. Unless it's a documentary. Most shows now are reality or some form of crime show.

@ScribbledAdNauseum We almost never watch the TV. I go online for the news and the newspapers. I can find videos and documentaries on YouTube and I do not like a lot the shows.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Can you watch Stranger Things another way. I have Netflix and love it. I have a hard time making decisions too.

Stranger Things is a netflix original, so no, I can only watch it on netflix. I have already gotten rid of netflix. It's not a necessity for me, I'd rather be able to use the $13.99 for other things.

@Hannihar I don't pay for the cable here, but I did pay for the netflix. If it was up to me we would have satellite, I feel like I'd watch much more television if I had access to some of the other channels that my friends have.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I see. Everyone has to do what is best for them. I got rid of what I had here for cable which was horrible and have Netflix which is cheaper for me each month.

Honestly, if someone else wasn't paying for Netflix I would get rid of it. It's OK

Yeah, I went ahead and got rid of it. That $13.99 will be used for other things. Summer will go by fast and soon it will be time for Christmas etc, so I really do need to be saving all that I can.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I would go for Prime, you can do a lot with that.

@snowy22315 I had prime before but I stopped using it and got rid of it as well. I know it had a lot of shows etc, I had movies that I bought from it. It just ended up not being worth it for me anymore.

Since I don't go out to movies anymore and if I watch just one movie a month on Netflix then I am still ahead. I do watch a few programs in a month. So, I'm keeping it. If you cancel and find that you really need it then you can just reactivate your account which can be done very easily.

@ScribbledAdNauseum When we have a tight budget some things must go. Now, it's summertime and who wants to spend too much time watching movies or tv programs.

Yes, I like that it's easy to reactivate my account. I went ahead and canceled it. I might re-activate later, but for right now? That money can be saved / used for something else.

I am keeping it because there are some really good content. I have stopped the kindle sub though. i don't have time to read but watch the movies.

I went ahead and canceled. As of right now, I'm not doing the kindle sub either. I might again eventually. I'm just trying to save money for this summer and beyond, like Christmas.

Think about how much you enjoy netflix and if you can afford it or not.

6 Jun 19
I just don't watch it that often. I might watch it once every three months. It's not worth it.

I would probably make my decision based on which I would use the most. If you're not going to be watching as much tv or reading during the summer then cancel and pick it up again in the Fall

That's what I was thinking, I can always renew. I've gotten rid of the netflix, and I am not going to get the KU program at the moment. It is a good program as a lot of the things I read are on the KU platform.

You gave up Netflix?! *gasps* We couldn't do that ... it's our main viewing platform now. Brilliant films, fabulous original stuff.

I just do not watch it often enough to justify the cost. Did you see where Lucifer is getting one more season and then it's going to be gone?

@Poppylicious I was slightly disappointed with the finale, but I still think it ended on a good note. I am not sure what else they can do with the show. I'm hoping whatever they do isn't going to ruin it.
7 Jun 19
@ScribbledAdNauseum No, I didn't notice. I'd be happy if it didn't even come back for a sixth. I really loved the finale and feel it could end there.

I end up my subscription with Netflix right before the end series of Santa Monica. But I still don’t know if I will subscribe again when Stranger Things come back

It's supposed to be back on July 4th. I hate the extended wait for it to renew. I went ahead and canceled my netflix, I could use the money for other things.

Entertainment is not much compared to a problem of a family matters and work. Whatever I could benefit I would for it. No second thought for I have enough money I could have it again. But family matters are hard to decide to decide.

When it comes to needing the money for family? I would cancel the service in a heartbeat. However,, I just want to save money and the best way to do that is to cancel netflix.

@Nakitakona I thought so as well. I can be spending that money on other things. It's summer here and I could be getting different foods, or buying tickets to fun events with that.

I didn't get cable after I moved. I figure I'll just buy Season 5 of Outlander when it comes out on DVD to watch. That's really the only show that I care about. The Man in the High Castle I can watch on Amazon Prime.

I got rid of prime at the end of last year. I just decided to get rid of Netflix. It doesn't bill me until the 25th, but I didn't want to leave it off and decide to cancel it after they already billed me. I can always re-sign up later. I watch so little television as it is, and most of what I watch is on youtube for free.

i weigh the importance. i weigh the benefits and of course, i calculate how much will.i save if i get rid of them. then i.will think of alternatives that are for free.
• United States
6 Jun 19
There are some free alternatives for sure. I watch more youtube (free) than anything else. I already got rid of Netflix. I may not get the kindle unlimited thing.
