I think I got a lot done. Scrubbed two toilets. Cooked two or three times. got all the garbage out for the pick up. Did dishes. That is about it for indoors. Planted herbs in various places outside. I had some mullein that had self seeded in a six inch tall planter. All well and good, except mullein grows over six feet tall, plus I wanted to plant something else in the planter. I put it out along a fence row. Some of my mint varieties would like to take over the world. I put some under one of the outdoor water faucets. I want it to grow all around the perimeter of my house. It smells good to us. It does not smell good to ants and spiders and mice. I had purchased a pot with two purple basil plants in it. I planted them with my two Roma tomato plants. Basil and tomatoes are good companion plants. Back in the house I made my herbal first aid salve. It is infused with some herbs and other things. Hubby used to always keep antibiotic ointment in his pocket. He likes this better. I paid $12 for 2 oz. of it last year He took it away from me because it healed his skin so fast. I put it on scrapes and cuts and bug bites. Hubby cut the plywood and we put up another section in the big shed. It is coming right along. I mowed a while. I have also talked to my sister today. Found out when her appointment is out of town. My image is a plant known as plantain. Not the banana kind. Native Americans called it White man's walking foot, as it came with them from Europe and spread every where they went. It grows well in gravel and desolate places. It is an effective treatment for bug and insect bites as well as for poison ivy, I am told. My herbal teacher used it in a salve she treated her shingles with. Interesting additional info: The seeds from the bloom stalk are psyllium. Metamucil comes from one variety of plantain. Oh, it is also edible. Like lettuce.

I hate mint because it is invasive, no matter how much you try to control it, it always spread around. I did not know that plantain is edible, I consider it a weed.

Where I am moving the mint it will be okay for it to spread. It will smell better when disturbed than the garlic that is growing all around from before we bought the house. Tender leaves of the plantain may be added to salad or cooked like other greens if you like. I love the healing properties it has. It really helped the year I was stung by a wasp.

@GardenGerty The wild garlic leaves and small white flowers really smell bad, but the leaves are good. I will keep some plantains.

Having flowers around the garden veggies and herbs as well attract pollinators. You get more from the plants. I only have container gardens for the tomatoes this year. I make it sound like more work. If it is not fun, I do not do it, except for the toilets and dishes. I have to do those anyway.

@crazyhorseladycx There is a wonderful spot that I want to have topsoil brought in to, and have an honest to goodness garden. Gotta get hubby out of the practice of driving that direction, though. It is a fairly deep dip, and challenging to mow. I figure if I fill it with good soil it would be perfect. There are very few level places on my property and that is part of the need to container garden for now.

@GardenGerty yes ma'am :) havin' 'em mixed near 'lso makes fer a purtier garden, don't'cha reckon? no frettin' o'er yer maters. i started growin' those, crookneck squash 'n purple green beans 'n big ol' barrels back when the drought hit. easier to tend/water. ya still get weeds courtesy 'f the winds blowin' the seeds. i hear ya'n the cleanin' house thingy. used to not bother me, but these days?? well, i'd jest rather not 'n gotta kinda force myself to tend to such, lol.

Eventually we will have all the boards put up in the shed. We are going slowly because hubby gets tired easily. I just always need to be a little busy, even if it is only on the computer.

This is not the one that is a fruit like a banana, but rather the herb, like in my picture. Most of the time I have just used it to make salves with.

I didn't know you could eat plantain. I just dug some of those out of the lawn yesterday! How do you make your herbal salve? I also have a self-seeded mullein plant. I rather like them, although they are so big - but this one has been attacked by mullein moth caterpillars.

I have all kinds of weeds in my yard that I understand are edible. The salve I make is called CPL. You must infuse a carrier oil (usually olive oil) with plantain, and another batch with calendula. When you have your infused oils, use equal parts of each with beeswax, melt in a double boiler. When the beeswax is completely melted remove the salve from heat and add in lavender essential oil. What I use is one half cup calendula oil, one half cup plantain oil, one third cup beeswax pellets and 50 drops of lavender essential oil. Pour into tins or jars. Use on sores, and abrasions or even just to soften skin. There are all kinds of instructions for healing salves online. I will hope to dandelion this year for a muscle rub.

Save some and dry it to use as a poultice for bites and such. It is everywhere.

@andriaperry I recently read it is good to treat poison ivy. Poke weed root is supposed to be as well, but I can get to the plantain easier.

I don't like mint. I don't mind mint in toothpaste and mouthwash though. All I did yesterday was cleaned the litter boxes really good, vacuumed around the litter boxes and watered my Christmas Cactus.

Often if you do not like something it means it is not something you need, especially when it comes to herbs. I love the smell when the mint is cut while mowing.

Shingles is a nasty disease. We've now been immunised against it, thank goodness.

I have been trying to decide on that. My herbal lady had it and found that she healed up rather well. I will likely get the immunization this fall.

It did not feel too bad. Probably because I am doing things I have been wanting to do. I am going for coffee today, in just about an hour.
