Quote of the Day #23 Poetry is the Evidence of Life

As a poet, and a novelist, I find that this quote really speaks to me! Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen Do you find that this quote speaks to you? Does it inspire you, perhaps to create something beautiful?

It hasn't inspired me but it does make sense. I have a poetry blog. I haven't written on it for a while but you can tell how my life was, and how it has changed, through the poems that are there.

@Michellekidwell my inspiration comes from the people in my life and from my own experiences.

@pumpkinjam Mine does as well, but certain people I find motivating as well, Helen Keller is definitely among those!

I like this quote, and I agree with you (being a poet/artist myself)

I interpreted this is a way different way haha I thought of it more of if your life is going "well" then your art is not burning, it is just ashes and someone needs to have a fire lit in their life, a new challenge, to keep going.

It’s definitely up to interpretation, that is the very essence of poetry and art in general!

Even though I just finished writing on my blog, I feel pretty uninspired at the moment; so I'm not the person to ask. lol ...but that's a good quote!

I guess he means that our lives produce good poems, or are a work of art, if we live them fully, or something like that. We write our life into God's poetry book of love, and the type of poems in there reflect the circuitous routes that lives often take. If at the end of a life, all you see are ashes, it could mean either one of two things. You have burnt out fully, and lived fully, or your life has been one of consumateness, and the emptiness is complete, apart from the poetry written here forever.
