Vaseline on cracked skin

United States
June 17, 2019 4:10pm CST
I know that some people say that vaseline is not healthy and you shouldn't use it. I had a really bad cracked and dry placed on my index finger that I put vaseline on. It has already helped tremendously. I've even put it on my lips before but I don't do that as often as I once did. I usually do this when the summer heat or cold weather has made them crack and ache. Do you use vaseline?

Well, you surely know that vaseline is "petroleum jelly", do not put on your lips.

@LadyDuck That's understandable. I have chapstick that I made myself but I put too much beeswax in it and so I have to heat the lip balm before applying. I need to melt it again, sanitize the tubes and then put more of the mango butter in it.

I have never heard it wasn't healthy. My grandmother always used it on her hands and feet, and wherever else it was needed!

I think, because it's petroleum, that the "new age" group doesn't believe it's the healthiest and would rather use alternatives.

@CarolDM Yeah, I used vaseline instead of lotion this time because I knew it'd do a better, faster job. I use the "old timey" type cures as well. I used castor oil on a sore I had once, I use witch hazel as well.

Yes, I do. I've always used Vaseline and my dermatologist told me there is nothing better for your skin than Vaseline.

I've never heard that. We have always kept vaseline around, but we don't always use it.

@RubyHawk Ours is under the sink, unfortunately we have no medicine cabinet, atleast not in that bathroom. That's okay though as I love how big the mirror is.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I've always had it in my medicine cabinet. It's one thing I always have on hand.

@Janet357 Oh I see. I once used a product that burned my scalp. Actually, two products. One was from an individual (homemade) seller, and the other was from a popular brand. I forget the name of the brand, but I stopped using it.

I've used it before for moisturizing. It has a good effect. Now, I use a different one as lip balm and 'Nivea' cream as skin moisturizer. :)

I bought myself some blistex for my lips. I have tubes of chapstick that I made up myself. I haven't used anymore of the vaseline but I haven't needed to. I just don't like using it, though it was something used all the time when I was growing up.

I don't usually have a need for it but I got this spot on my hand not too long ago and needed to use something. I knew neosporin wouldn't cut it.,

I have used Vaseline sure. It is very good for dry skin. Even good on burns and helps with babies diaper rash. The Vaseline locks in moisture the secret for healing dry skin.

I should start using it for my heels and the area where my toes meet the rest of my feet on top, that area always gets the driest. I used to use Avon products for my feet but I stopped doing that a few years ago.
