Rock 'n roll for a good cause

My friends and I did a free show at a local pub for Child Cancer Awareness. I had to come down from the Grass Valley Bluegrass Festival early, but it was worth it. I have lost people to cancer, but the thought of losing a child to cancer is beyond what I can comprehend. We were the last band to play, and the reception was great. I have no idea about how much money was raised, but I hope that cancer research benefits from our having played. Do you have certain causes that you work for? My mother died of cancer when I was still a child, so this one hits close to home.

Yes, it made my childhood different than it would have been otherwise. I still played actively, but there was a part of me that always felt like Oliver Twist or Eor the sad donkey.

@TheHorse I can understand, it must be hard not to have a mother.

I would want to work for children trapped in human trafficking and mentally challenged folks. I wanted to adopt a mentally challenged child but couldn't for obvious reasons. For now, we donate to 1 orphanage 2 kids and 1 elderly person, and this year I am adding for family of martyrs.

@TheHorse Today we helped my house help. Her husband was hospitalized for almost a week, and she had borrowed at 36 percent p.a. I did not donate to her, just loaned it to her at zero interest. I intend to give her something when she retires. For now, she can work. She was so grateful! There is so much pain all around.

@vandana7 I feel bad for her. Is hospitalization expensive there? It is outrageous here. I make sure I always have insurance. As for my house servants, I am not as nice to mine as you are to yours. I generally carry a whip with me, and I yell a lot when I perceive them as working too slowly.

I would like to work with physically challenged kids whose minds are intact. They're often underestimated or condescended to.

kudo's to all that participated! 'tis a sad thingy to've a young'un with cancer 'r any disease where the treatments 're so horrific 'n the outcome not 'lways well. i secretly donate to several charities, both locally 'n globally. sadly if'n they know who ya'd be/contact info, they bombard'ja with propaganda which to me's a waste 'f funds.

We have lost quite a few people in our family from one cancer or another, thankfully no one still considered a child. I think the youngest one was one of my cousins who got leukemia when she was about 14 but then after a long stay in the hospital went into remission for about 11 years and then within a year was gone. Still way to young. Good for you for supporting a good cause.

A bittersweet story. I'm glad she got some extra years, but sad it returned.

@TheHorse Yes, it was nice that she got extra time and the second time around it happened so fast.

I do not have a cause that I care about in terms of doing music. However through my writings on this site I am doing my best to shed light on people seeking help instead of taking their own lives.
