Needed a Kayak, Not Hiking Boots

My missus and I have done a lot of camping already this year. Our latest trip took up to Lumberton, NC and gave us a chance to hike a section of the Lumber River State Park. The river was running high due to recent rains. We didn't realize how high until we tried to hike the Orange Trail. As you can see in the photo, the Orange Trail was inundated. This was about 150 meters down the trail. We turned back and tried the Blue Trail. The only impediment to our progress on the Blue Trail was a downed tree we easily bypassed. This was our 7th camping trip already this year. We are enjoying our new camper very much.

I'm so glad you are getting to camp a lot! We went camping a few weeks ago, stayed at a KOA. We stayed in a cabin, it was awesome.

KOA is one of our favorite places to camp. They have nice campgrounds and you meet some of the best people when you stay there. We were at a KOA last week. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

@DWDavis Thank you and I agree! We had a lovely time. =) They were even so nice to let us use their pool this past Sunday for my husband to baptize a few people!!

Pretty photo. I kind of miss crawling into a tent. With my knees those sweet days are probably over.

Our "tent" these days is a 5th wheel camper with a queen size bed and a shower. After a quarter century of tent camping we moved up to a popup, then a hybrid, and now our Eagle.

@sallypup Ours is very much like that. It is nice and has more room than my first apartment.

@DWDavis Years ago my sister took me camping in her RV. Very comfy and it reminded me of a rolling apartment.

You could almost fish there! I love seeing water gush through trail areas after the rain . . . out here the creeks were pretty dry from the drought but having good rain this year changed that (for now). Sounds like you're making the most out of your camper . . . we have yet to go camping with the kids but hope to soon!

I hope you get to go camping soon. I haven't been fishing yet this year. My youngest son says he's going take me fishing if he has to drag me to the pier.

I love waterfalls, but the problem is the high rainfall makes getting to them a little tricky. Glad you're enjoying your new camper.

We enjoy visiting some wonderful waterfalls when we camp in the mountains. Last time we were out that way we visited Elk Falls in the northwest corner of North Carolina near the Tennessee line.

You might like the way we camp now. Our 5th wheel has all the comforts of home, literally.

We have 7 more planned. August is the only month there isn't a trip on the schedule this summer because we have lots of other things going on then.

When you get to be our age, it is nice to sleep inside something with a roof and solid walls yet still enjoy hiking and a campfire at night.
