Beauty from another place. Could you live in the desert?

At my college reunion, I hung out one day with my old friend Paula, who currently lives in Arizona. Like me, she enjoys her gardening, but the plants she grows are mostly succulents. She just sent me a picture of her organ pipe cacti. I don't think I'd ever even heard of such a beast. I don't know if I could live in the desert (could you?). I like green too much. But if I did, I'd try to get to know the flora and fauna there.

My daughter lives in Tucson. She loves it and all the desert lack of plants. To me, its a parking lot filled with gravel. To her, its nirvana.

Yeah, I like Flagstaff. But the area around Phoenix looks like a moonscape to me.

@TheHorse Exactly and Tucson is even further south than Phoenix.

No, I would not like to live in the desert, it's too dry, not good for my health.

@TheHorse I like the rivers, the forest, the mountains covered with snow. Desert is too dry.

I'm not sure how it would affect my health. But I love greenery. I actually feel extra relaxed and happy when I visit my relatives on the East Coast of the US in Spring or Summer. It's so lush there.

No I don`t think I could live there but it would be nice to have a vacation home there. I would eat some of those cactus. I love green to much too, and trees, I really love my trees.

@andriaperry Tell me about it. The words "little pricks" come to mind when I think about it.

@didinedhia I'd have to look at a map to find your city. Is it inland?

I vacationed in Arizona twice. Scottsdale was more to my liking than Tucson, but I prefer living by oceans.

I like oceans too. Santa Barbara was beautiful. But I like rolling green hills and mountains as well. Both Montana and Iowa are pleasing to me.

@TheHorse I have been to Arizona and it is a nice place to visit. I checked it out when I was thinking of where I wanted to live and it was not me to live there. When I came to Israel the year before I came to live here I found what I was looking for and so here I am after 30 some years. I am a city girl and if I would have found what I was looking for instead of coming to live here in Israel maybe Arizona but not really because I have to live in Israel because it is the only Jewish State we have. After living here I could not live anywhere else. We have desert here but I am a Jerusalem person so have to live in our capital. I bet that was a mouthful for you.

I would probably enjoy the sunshine until the summer temps typically hit 100 plus. A place like most desert areas better enjoyed during Fall and Winter.

I lived in Phoenix for around three years and I found it good. I had no issue with infrastructure and day to day basic things and so life was an easy one just like any other city in US. Yes living in desert in a developing or underdeveloped nation might be challenging.
