Well, it's here! Or as the group The Cars might say, "Summer, Summer, Summer." And from the posts I am starting to see complaining about how hot and humid it is in some regions of the world, Summer has definitely arrived. For "Some Who Like It Hot" it's a time to celebrate, for others a three month wait before we start to cool off. Anyway, I thought I would celebrate the summer season, with a series of my favorite song titles describing something related to the heat. Like perhaps a little fun in the sun or maybe a "Sun King" theme for our first quiz. I imagine Mr. Lennon would like that! Enjoy the "rays" and this great video "chestnut" (song) as you warm up to the clues... Here are your song and artist clues- Whodunnit? 1. The song was written in Eric Clapton's garden using one of Clapton's acoustic guitars. This song was inspired by the long winters in England which this artist thought went on forever. It was composed by this artist as he watched the sun rise on a beautiful spring morning. The track was one of the first pop songs to feature a Moog. Richie Havens covered this tune in 1971. This British band appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964, and at the time drew the largest viewing audience on American TV. This song was written by the lead guitarist. The album cover featured these 4 musicians walking across an iconic English road to their studio to record their final album together. 2. This 60's song was a #1 hit in the UK and U.S. by this English band. Bob Dylan gave us his version of this song in 1961, and Nina Simone her version in 1962. But these Blues-Rockers took the tune to another level making this the group's signature song. Featuring their deep-voiced frontman singer with the howling vocals combined with a gritty bluesy sound, this group played an important role in the so-called British Invasion of the US music charts. A popular theory for this songs inspiration was a New Orleans brothel. The lyrics claimed this place was the ruin of many poor girls and the singer of the song too. When the original band split up the singer went on to join the funk oriented San Francisco group War. Bonus- Do you know the name of the album that Lennon's song "Sun King" appeared on? Bonus #2- A musician refered to as the "Fifth Beatle" played Hammond Organ on this album. He later had a hit as a solo artist with the song "Will It Go Round in Circles" a #1 charter. Do you know this musician's name? Ok, "let's not make a hot mess of this quiz." Focus on those clues before answering and remember the title has a "heat themed" reference. If your stuck and need additional help just let me know in your response. "I'll Back You Up" if more clues are needed. As always, thanks for reading and responding to my music post !!!! The first one is "Here comes the sun", not my favorite. The number two "House of the Rising Sun" great song, I have seen the supposed House of the rising sun in New Orleans.

1. Little darlin', it's been a long, cold, lonely winter. Now people will gripe that it's been a long, hot, miserable summer. That was those Bee Tells guys, right? Wonder if they ever got famous or anything. 2.And here you don't even mention the 1937 version by Roy Acuff! Shame on you!!! I not only have his version, I have the Callahan Brothers (relatively obscure country duo from the 30s) doing the song under the title "Rounder's Luck (Rising Sun Blues)." It goes back a few years, doesn't it!! Bonus: Abby Somebody.....Abby Normal? (There's a meme in a music group on Facebook that has Marty Feldman's Eyegore character walking in the crosswalk, captioned "Abbey Normal Road." ) Bonus 2: He had a song that didn't have no melody, didn't he? Despite how beautiful HCTS is, and how it's one of the highlights of that album to me, here's what I think of every time that song is mentioned. Eric Idle has ruined it for me for life!

Well now lets address these insightful comments one at a time, lol. Yes, I believe those British Boys did ok for themselves. Seems they even went on to sing another tune about some nice weather called "Good day Sunshine." #2- Yes, I was aware of the history and other artists who recorded The Animals hit. Somehow I knew you would remind me of my Acuff omission. Am I bad Bonus- Love that line from one of Mel's finest comedies. I even own the DVD "Nothing from Nothing I believe Billy had no melody on that song Being good friends with Idle and the financial backer of the Monty Python movies I'm sure George had a good laugh over the tune and Eric's hairdo.
