Wait for the red lights

When we’re travelling and paying for accommodation, we are always curious as to the type of plumbing we’re going to encounter. In the beginning, we were very naïve and expected plumbing to be much like our own with hot and cold taps that were easy to operate.
But it varies from country to country and place to place. Sometimes you have to switch on a heater and wait x minutes for the water to heat; sometimes the pressure is so low that you virtually have to run around in the shower to get wet and sometimes the taps can be tricky to work out.
However, in our last place, the shower head was fitted with lights which were blue when the water was cold then turned to green as it warmed up and finally to red when the water was hot. Vince said you can get these on Ebay. I said I want one which was really a joke but I did think they were ‘cool’, so to speak.

The color-changing shower heads are available here in the US too Andria. I have seen them on Wayfair, Amazon and at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They're just to an everyday item yet! haha

@moffittjc I'll just keep asking nicely (as in every time I have a shower) till Vince gives in and gets me one.

That is a nice idea. I have never seen something like that. I once stayed in a hotel room with a huge bathtub, but there wasn't enough hot water to fill it. There was note in the room. It said: "It is not possible to fill the bathtub with hot water. We made a mistake when we built them, they are too big and there is not enough hot water. Please use the shower instead"

@JudyEv Yes, we wanted to use the bathtub. It was large enough for both of us, and we thought it would be a good way to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. But when we read the note we knew that we had to forget that idea.

@Porcospino I always feel guilty about a bath full of water but very occasionally I'll indulge as we have heaps of water. I still don't waste it. It is just the start of winter here but our 100,000 litre rainwater tank is already running over.

@MarymargII Anna says the red light means the water is too hot but I showered under the red lights. Of course, it could be too hot for some.

Funny you should mention this, one time we went to Ireland and there were a couple from New Zealand on the tour. They had been many places in the world, and said they were thinking of writing a book about showers from around the world, since they were all a bit different. They were talking about a few they had encountered.

When we were in the motor-home, as soon as we got to a park, one of us would head off to the toilet block then report back on the condition, etc. Some had no toilet paper and you had to take your own. Some showers you had to pay for, some had funny taps, etc, etc. Your NZ acquaintances would certainly find enough to fill a book.

The hotel I just stayed in had shower taps that gave out cold water whether you moved the tap left or right - dreadful

@JudyEv ugh, i don't miss those! i nearly drowned one trip 'cross the country from such, lol. needed the shower, but preferred such without my clothes :)
i finally got a split handled shower thingy fer momma 'n the aunt. momma 's 'nly 4'8" tall'n the aunt'd be 5'10". there'd be a knob to turn one 'r the other off, 'r to use both fer a massage. i think that hot water indicator thingy'd be great fer 'em, though dunno if'n such comes with 2 gizmos?

@crazyhorseladycx I'm not sure either about the gizmos. This did have a hand-held nozzle. You might be able to research it online.

I think the color-changing addition to the shower head is a great idea! I've seen them in a few places here in the US.

@JudyEv I would probably just stand there watching the lights change colors, and forget all about taking a shower! It doesn't take much to please me either!

@moffittjc The first time I had a shower I didn't even notice them change colour and had no idea what was happening - just pretty lights in the shower-head. It's good that you're easily pleased. There needs to be more like you around the world.

Very unique.
We encounter various ones at campsites. Hubby always comes out of a shower with hints how to get the most out the shower time. Some can be stopped and restarted, etc. Great discussions arise from showers, all to save putting in another dollar!

That type of showerhead is great to have since I do not have to play guess what I am. Hot stuff or cold love.
