A last hurrah

While we were travelling recently in France, Ireland and Austria, we ate out a few times but mostly had home-made meals. Then, while we were filling in time in the airport in Vienna, we spotted these yummy offerings and couldn’t resist a last hurrah, so to speak. I had the dessert on the left and Vince had the cherry tart. I can’t remember the name of mine at the moment but I do know it was delicious and not a bit heavy. I always prefer light, creamy desserts whereas Vince is more likely to choose something heavier. This can cause a bit of a problem as we often share a sweet dish. Vince has Type 2 diabetes as isn’t supposed to have too much sugar. He didn’t test his sugar while he was away but today it was within his normal range. He hasn’t put on any weight whereas I have put on a kilo (2.2 pounds). I’m pretty happy with that as it’s hard to go on holiday and not put on at least a little weight. Which of these two sweet dishes would you have chosen?

I would have chosen the dessert you ate, as there is more there to eat! I'm not going to lie, I am gluttonous sometimes! haha

I found some of these types of dessert so rich that I was battling to finish them. I can be a glutton if it's something I really like.

At 2.2 pounds after a holiday you can be darned proud of yourself. On a cruise you can pack on almost 10 pounds in a week. It's tough when the offerings are delicious. LOL!

The one on the left. I love desserts, and will often order one epecially if it is one I haven't tried before.

@JudyEv Most restaurant desserts are things I have had before, so I don't necessarily want them, but if they are something new that sounds delicious I will have one. There is one restaurant though, that I love their one dessert so I try to leave room for it.

I always read the dessert menu first before ordering my main meal. If I am really keen on a dessert, I might just have an entree but even then I often don't have room for a dessert.

I must say I do love my desserts. It's good you don't suffer from diabetes. It seems to be affecting more and more older people.

Because I eat less now and we rarely have dessert, I find I can't eat a huge rich serving without feeling a bit ill. But I do love creamy sweets.

I was thinking of the caloric value of the pastry too. You do know cream doesn't have any calories, don't you?

The cuisine over there is so different and so tempting. I was disappointed when the guys on the boat (not Vince) went shopping for something for lunch and came home with ham and cheese which we can get any old time. They could have chosen any of a dozen terrines or other cold meats but no... ham and cheese it was.

@JudyEv Recently we traveled to places that had us saying the same thing. Although we have visited and lived in many areas, we should have stayed longer in some places while we were younger.
