A large sink hole in front of our granddaughter's apartment!

Our granddaughter called last night to tell us about the water leak and sink hole in the street by her apartment building.
Most of the residents had to be evacuated, but none of her furnishings got flooded.
Her boyfriend and another friend came over and picked her up and her dog Winnie. She'll be staying with a friend for a while, but sure thankful no one got hurt.
I have no idea how long it takes to fix a sink hole.
You just never know what's going to happen in life, do you?

We had a big sinkhole open up on the interstate here in Gainesville. It was mostly in the breakdown lane, but some of the outside travel lane started to give way so they went ahead and shut that lane down while crews worked overnight and throughout the day to stabilize the sinkhole. Now it looks like they will continue to keep one lane closed for another day as engineers make sure they stabilized and filled in the sinkhole so that it doesn't recur again. Sinkholes are very common in Florida.

@1creekgirl It looked like it was a big enough hole to swallow a car! I think they discovered it pretty quickly after it started opening up, so they were able to close off the lane before anyone got hurt or killed!

thankfully nobody got hurt's those thingies're most dangerous'n jest open 'p with the blink 'f'n eye. i wonder what caused such?
the first pond we put'n out here got eaten by one. fed the fish that morn, went to work 'n came home to a large gappin' hole. no clue's to the cause, but suspect 'twas once where a well'd been?? took 5 dirt mover loads to fill such'n thankfully 've 'd no more troubles.
's far's how long 't could take fer that sinkhole't yer grands? no tellin's 's i'm sure lines'll need to be checked, etc. hopefully she'll not be 'way from her place long though.

@1creekgirl not jest drained - gone! all the fish, rocks, pond pump, waterfall - e'erythin' gone. jest a big gapin' hole 'twas left. ya could see a lil corner 'f the pond liner stickin' out.
if'n a pipe burst 'nderground, i reckon such could cause that? there'd be so many theories... i'm jest so glad nobody 'twas hurt!

Wow, that was quite a shock to find your pond drained. There was a water leak at our granddaughter's, somewhere, but maybe she'll be back home before too long.

Do you see many of them while living in the city?

@1creekgirl I don't live in a city. I live in a suburban area. . . though it is the most densely populated state in the union. hahaha

She's very thankful, too, especially that her dog is okay.
