Life gets in the way!

I have been a little bit busy over the last few days hence my not popping in. Yesterday I woke at 4AM to thunder and lightning. We are due some heavy storms. Yesterday was quite a hot humid day nothing at all I guess as bad as it can be in some places. This weekend the forecast is at least 31C which is around 87F but could be as hot as 35C 97F. France is on high alert as temperatures could rise to around 45C, 113F in Paris. Around 10 years ago we had a similar heatwave and my town had the highest temperatures in the UK 39.4, 103F but in France it was far worse in fact the high temperatures contributed to over 14,806 extra deaths. Around Europe it was a similar story with increased mortality rates as follows :- Portugal 1,866 to 2,039 people died of heat-related causes. Netherlands 1,500 Germany 300 United Kingdom 2,000 Spain 141 These recorded deaths were over and above the norm. It is important to keep as cool as possible. Keep curtains closed to prevent the heat from coming into the house. Use loose cotton clothing not synthetics. Keep well hydrated. Do not do anything too strenuous during the heat. Make sure you listen to the warnings issued by the government. Keep an eye on elderly neighbours and babies who are more vulnerable due to their inability to regulate their body temperatures. If necessary use fans and cool down with cool not iced water. Suck ice cubes or iced lollies. Drink plenty of fluids. This may sound quite funny to some of our mylot members but these are very extreme temperatures that we are not used to in Europe!

We have already had days when the temperature is over 100 and it will get worse. I watch my granddaughter and I am very cautious hen she is outside. I won't let her stay out for long periods of time.

Gosh Gary that is boiling for there. I remember the one summer in the 70s when I was in Cornwall and it was over 90F. Try to guard yourself against the sun.

Today we reached 35 C (97 F), tomorrow it should be the same, but more breezy, this should make the day more bearable. I am inside, the shutters closed, the windows closed and the fans running. Before a cold dinner I will take a warm bath. Inside the house is not too bad, but before dinner I have to water the garden.

Hopefully it will have cooled down a little for you to water the garden. It is a good idea to keep the shutters closed!

@garymarsh6 When I went out at 7 p.m. to water the garden it was not at all bad, hot, but not hotter than other summer months of the past years. Today is hotter, but breezy, I am fine inside.

@garymarsh6 the dangers are not appreciated by all. A&E will be full this weekend with many lobsters in spite of the warnings.

OH yes we used to have people come in red red red burnt and blistered some we even had to refer to the burns units as they were so badly burnt. It is not big and certainly not clever. When children are involved it is negligent!

It’s been extremely hot here, too. Unless you are at the beach, the a/c is a must.

@HazySue Lemon is very refreshing. I like the tangy taste of lemons. I used to like the taste of limes until I went to Thailand where they use limes in everything. Now I can't bear the taste of lime!

Our weather heated up quickly here also. We are not quite in a heatwave, but we have the high humidity and the daytime high temperatures are heatwave numbers, but the days are cooling off in the evening still. I am cutting back on my caffeine in take, that is one thing that my body cannot tolerate in the hot weather is too much caffeine.

In Australia we are geared for heat with air-conditioning in many buildings and homes. I can understand that it is a whole different ball game in Europe. I hope people take care during the heatwave.

Yes many places here do not have air con. They do in the big shopping centers and some shops. It is nice to dawdle around the fridge and fridge section in the supermarket.
