Black Hockey Players #6 - Anson Carter

It was March 8th when I last wrote anything on MyLot. I was in the middle of a countdown about black hockey players, in answer to the oft-asked question, "Are there any black hockey players?" It's now July, hockey season is over, but I still have guys to write about. We are at #6: Anson Carter.
Toronto-born and raised right winger Anson Carter played for eight NHL teams over a 12-year career, most notably for the Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks. Carter played with a combination of both speed and toughness, and was a gifted goal scorer. Carter was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in 1992, but opted for college, playing four years at Michigan State University. When the Nordiques moved to Denver to become the Colorado Avalanche, the team traded his rights to the Washington Capitals, after which he was soon traded to the Bruins, where he played for four years, and regularly showed up on ESPN highlights.
Anson Carter played in 674 NHL regular season games (24 post-season games,) during which he scored 202 goals (8 playoff,) and served up 219 assists (5 playoff.) He also racked up 229 penalty minutes (4 in the playoffs,) and, as a member of Team Canada, won two World Championship Gold Medals, as well as a World Juniors Gold. Carter was also named the Vancouver Canucks Most Exciting Player for the 2005-2006 season.
Back when I played fantasy hockey, I always jumped at the chance to draft Anson Carter to my team (in fact, while he was playing for Edmonton, the Oilers were in town to face the Avalanche, and I was there. Great seats. Early in the first period, already being pretty tanked, I made the heinous mistake of publicly celebrating a Carter breakaway goal. The "Sorry, he's on my fantasy team" excuse didn't go over very well.)
Anson Carter now works as a studio analyst for the NHL Network. I really couldn't find many highlights of him playing, other than a few poor-quality fights, most of the videos are of his NHL Network work. But I did find a cool piece featuring him talking about being a black hockey player, and his love of the game.
(Info verified by Wikipedia)
Anson Carter talks about the importance of the impact black players have had on the NHL and what his experience was like growing up as a black hockey player.

"Sorry, he's on my fantasy team" excuse didn't go over very well." Haha, why I can never play fantasy, ends up making me root against my team. Neat post buddy and neat player. I am a St.Louis Cardinal fan and baseball team not doing so well, nice city had hockey and won this year. Blues not my team but knew from when Kings won how cool it is and softens the blow of an underachieving team.

It's quite fun when your team wins the cup. Hopefully, we're headed back to glory sooner than later. Av's looked good in the playoffs this year, and the front office has been making some good off-season moves, so the future is bright!

Too long to explain, honestly. Just really too long to go into.

No, not really. A good, solid player, but not high enough numbers. I always liked him, though.

@Ronrybs - Not much of a demand for hockey players that can't skate!
