Am Sad, I Burned What I Was Cooking

Call it due to ageing, but I was so sorry from yesterday when I burned the chicken that I had prepared for my son. He should have taken it to the office for lunch.
Then last night, I forgot that my rice cooker was not functioning well so I put a knife to make it on the very hot mode. I noticed the smell of burning rice then I jumped to the kitchen and saw it almost smoking. So we ate a smoke-scented rice last night!
This noon, I put the pot of stewed fish I cooked yesterday on the stove to heat it; but again, I forgot about it. So the house was filled with a burning fish smell. Good thing the fish didn't got scorched but there's no more sauce left.
Felt so sorry about it; then promised to myself I will keep watch on what I am cooking to avoid burnt food.

Oh, what bad luck. I use the timer on the microwave to remind me to check things. Vince has his own timer. He's not allowed to use the microwave one as he pushes 'cook' instead of 'timer'. He has blown up two microwaves doing this so now he's not allowed to use it anymore - at least not to time things.

I thinks it's common among men to be like that; my husband had broken two dryers while drying Oreo; then yesterday, he broke the vacuum when he cleaned the car. (sorry, am not sexist!

).

You must have been distracted by something else you doing while cooking that is why you were not able to cook it properly. I think you're right perhaps you should stop doing something else when cooking and just focus on that so you can cook it well next time.

I agree with you; I often multitask that's why I forget things that I should attend to. Good thing, I did not set the house on fire!

Yes, I should keep watch while cooking. We call it "tutong" the burnt part of rice at the bottom of the pot. I tastes good.

@acelawrites Is Tutong a Tagalog word? Dukot is a Bisayan word of the burned part of the rice.

@acelawrites if you think that is one of your weakness then do something about it this early. Take something like " Memory plus " and or study techniques for remembering.

That's what I needed; am also thinking of the sorry thoughts of losing one's memory that comes with age. Prayed it won't happen to me.

It's indeed so sad it happens when we tend to do other things while cooking.

@acelawrites My experience taught me to double check the burners before I leave the kitchen.

At least there's also a portion of the rice that is not burnt; I did not throw the burnt part so I ate it too!(as punishment to myself

).

try to stay in the kitchen and do other tasks there while waiting for whatever you're heating or cooking.
3 incidents a row is quite concerning.

Am really concerned about it; am sorry for that, because I am worried about people who are ageing have that tendency to be so forgetful. Lesson learned; watch what I am cooking!
