What are you having for dinner tonight?

It's the 4th of July, or Independence Day, here in the US. I still haven't decided what I'm having for dinner, but it will not be BBQ. I'm often made reference to my favorite evening meal when I'm grading papers, but I don't think I've taken a picture of it right after I brought it home. This is Tom Kha Kai, or Thai Chicken soup with mushrooms. There's a hint of lemon in the broth, and you can ask for it as spicy as you like. If you don't have rice with Tom Kha Gai, especially if you like it spicy, you'll be able to read War and Peace in the bathroom the next morning. Have you ever had Tom Kha Gai? What are you having for dinner tonight?

@TheHorse Yes, I went to a BBQ earlier today after my skydive was postponed. I had brisket, pulled pork, ribs and chicken, along with corn on the cob, baked beans, cole slaw and potato salad. I didn't quite have room for dessert after all that!

Yes but only a mild version. In Thailand I watched a friend go white then flaming red it almost looked like he had steam coming out of his ears ! It was hilarious. I like the taste of lemon grass! The Thais tone down all their foods for western palates here but in Thailand its the real McCoy! I had a ham salad! Enjoy your dinner!

There must be health benefits to "mega-hot." I prefer "super-hot" I don't want to have to drink gallons of water while eating.

I do too. But if you don't do rice, aren't you asking for a mega-poo the next morning?

My husband likes Tom Kha Gai (for those who do not know, Thai coconut soup ). I make it, not now because the weather is too hot, but I often make it in winter. To be honest this one in the photo does not have an attractive look.

@TheHorse My husband had the Tom Kha Gai in several Thai restaurants and most of the time it was good. It seems that mine is good.

I didn't want to wait and photograph it as I eat it. Take-out containers do not make for "lovely presentation." Their Tom Kha Gai is among the best I've had, and I eat it wherever I live or go.

So do I. When I lived in Iowa, one of the first things I did was figure out where the nearest good Chinese and Thai restaurants were.

I have never had it, but it actually looks really good. I love soup anyway, even though most of the time I need a really heart soup. On the 4th we...did...a...BBQ. Pork steaks on the grill and some delicious sides. No soup on the 4th.

As do I. I enjoy the chutneys that come with Indian food.I smell so many different curries at my apartment complex (almost everyone here is Indian). I may have to visit my favorite Indian restaurant Wednesday, when I do not work.

@TheHorse Yes curries and chutneys are some important ingredients in an Indian meal and you will be surprised at the varieties we have... Each state and even regions in a state have a different kind. There is a restaurant called " Chutney "here and they are famous for their buffet. They serve more than 50 varieties only for chutney.
