What's a fella gotta do to get a meal 'round these parts?

Sneak, lay flat 'pon the tree makin' slow movements. Grab a piece 'n scurry back'p the tree quick's lightnin'. Seek shelter'n thin, high limbs to nibble 'way whilst heart 's raicin'.... When that don't seem effective, fluff 'p yer tail (so ya look 3 times bigger'n ya'd be) whilst tossin' 't to 'n fro 'n chatter angrily 't those who wish to disturb ya. Started off nice 'n peaceful, 'til the Blue Jay spotted 'im 't the feeder. Many squabbles ensued, which brought the 'ttention 'f the feral cats. Yup, they came from outside my lil sanctuary 'n multiple pairs. Luckily, the lil squirrel can go from tree to tree to tree (make the rounds through all 16 'f 'em without touchin' the ground) from high'p'n the tops. Swingin' from vines like Tarzan, he made 'is way to safety. Once 't all settled down 'n the cats 'n bird gave 'p their pursuit, he returned, though cautiously to the feeder. Grabbin' a piece 'f corn 'r a nut 'n racin' back'p the safety 'f the canopy to dine. I've yet to see the lil fella today, perhaps he returned to 'is original home? Someplace without so much competition.

I like to see little squirrels scampering around. they climb up a tree near my deck and run over the roof, sometimes scamper up the stairs and go through the hall.

@RubyHawk when they're movin', 'tis most diff'cult to get a decent shot 'f such. e'en with my camera set'n the highest speed possible such's jest a blur, lol.

I love the way you wrote this. It made me feel like I was sitting right there watching everything that was going on. Bless the little guy. It is sad he has to grab and run instead of sitting and enjoying his food. Shame on the Blue Jay and the cats.

@crazyhorseladycx I try to answer the best I can and I love to talk about animals. By George they mean lot to me just like family and friends do. I love hearing about what is going on at your place. I feel like I am right there with you.

@crazyhorseladycx I would love to come and see you. I know that we would have a good time. I love animals of all kinds. I used to draw animals but I haven't done that in ages. I am not a good drawer but it is fun to try. Mother Nature has blessed us with many wonderful things. I wish I lived closer to the mountains but tons of people are. I love to sit on the hillside and just look around. I am glad that your health is getting better. I know that you love your animals and want to be with them.

@velvet53 ya can tell when folks read'n when they don't, eh? ya do jest fine, hon. i believe i've weeded out most 'f the others. 'tis kind'a sad, but 'twas necessary fer what'd be left 'f my sanity. i 'dore critters, love sharin' their stories 'n pics 'f mother natures great gifts. fer myself, my critters're what've kept me strivin' fer my health. my fear 'f what'd happen to 'em if'n i kept declinin' 'n left this earth. perhaps some day ya could come fer a visit :) such aint all rosy 'n sunshine, but i bet we'd a grand time :)

yes ma'am, he's stayin' safe, though i dunno how, lol. he sure 'nough tests the limits quite oft. i'm watchin' the blue jay off with 'is peanuts 'gain this morn. i'd thought 'bout cuttin' out some more vines, but i reckon they'll stay fer the lil fella. confuses the cats how he can manage 'em 'n when they try, they fall to the ground. critters, ne'er a dull moment, eh?

yes ma'am, sounds he's findin' plenty, but then ya'd be'n the woods. still aint certain how this lil fella got way out here 'mong the plains 'n arid clime?? he does battle with a blue jay. earlier 'twas fluffed 'p, chatterin' 'way givin' ol' momma cat the what fer. 'twas funny coz she jest laid down'n the cool pavers'n the shade'n took 'erself a nap. no doubt gettin' a break from those kittens. he seemed most cranky she paid no mind to 'is hollerin', lol. yes ma'am, they're really fast! i gotta catch this'un most oft whilst eatin'. right now he'd be stretched out'n a tree limb. takin' a break i reckon from the battles with the jay.

@noni1959 yes ma'am, they'd be purty fond 'f those acorns. puzzled me why this lil fella chose my place. i've no oak trees, no nut trees 't all. i do've junipers though'n hear tell they like juniper berries.

'd that fella be 'llowed to be shootin' out where she lives?? i've no doubts there'd be plenty 'f folks out here who'd take great joy'n shootin' 'em. they've 'lready proven they'll shoot purty much anythin' that moves :(

@much2say me, too! i get a tad worrisome when i don't see the lil guy. soooo many cats! thus far i reckon he'd be the one 'n 'nly?? 've not seen more'n 1 anyhow. i take loads 'f pics from e'ery angle possible, jest'n case, so's i can compare. kinda like i do the birds. 'tis amazin' how a common sparrow can've subtle diff'rences'n their feather patterns i'd not notice otherwise.
