Our neighbor's gardener gave me lots of "bignay" a local wild berry/cherry.
Some were ripe(dark ones) while the others not yet.It is said to be so nutritious like the other berries. It is getting scarce because of massive forest destruction in exchange for development like housing projects, etc.
It is good our neighbor still has the bignay tree.
It's fruit tastes sweet but the unripe ones are sour.
Do you love berries?

It is so saddening to see vast rainforest lands being cleared for "development."

@acelawrites I see the tea variety but I have not bought one since I do not know how it taste. I think its not the fruit they use but the barks of the branch.

This one tastes sweet when fully ripened; the very black one. They're so small and with hard seed.

It grows in the wild, but becoming rare because people tend to cut it since they do not know its healthful benefits. I think it is "bugnay" in the Visayan dialect.

@acelawrites I see. I have not even heard a word about Bugnay in Visayas and Mindanao. Maybe my friends know about this fruit. Thanks.

Sadly all these berry trees are vanishing as they are mostly seen in jungles One has come up in my garden. They are not what you have and neither do I know if they can be eaten. But I will keep it.

They taste good when ripe; but hard to eat because it is too small and with hard seed. It is good to extract the pulp and juice.
